  1. 1
A method for transferring control between one or more destination component devices and one or more source component devices in a computerized system comprising a switch (108, 206, 306), and a network protocol stack (102, 220) comprising a sequence of one or more intermediate software layers (106, 201 - 203), each of the intermediate software layers having a state object, the switch being on top of or integrated into the top intermediate software layer, the control needed to process a plurality of state objects while still maintaining integrity of established network communications, the method comprising the following:an act of generating (810) a hierarchical offload data structure comprising a plurality of state objects of one or more intermediate software layers, wherein each of the one or more intermediate software layers corresponds to a level of the hierarchical offload data structure;an act of transferring (830) from a source component device to a destination component device two or more state objects in the same intermediate software layer of the offload data structure;and an act of the destination component processing (840) the two or more state objects at the same protocol layer after the transfer;wherein the offload data structure includes a block list having at least a next block pointer (547, 560, 562, 570, 572) that points to the same intermediate software layer of a different connection path through the network protocol stack, and a dependent block pointer (537, 542, 557) that points to a different hierarchical layer of the same connection path through the network protocol stack.
  2. 48
A computer program product for use in a computerized system comprising a switch (108, 206, 306), and network protocol stack (102, 220) comprising a sequence of one or more intermediate software layers (106, 201 - 203), each of the intermediate software layers having a state object, the switch being on top of or integrated into the top intermediate software layer, the computer program product for implementing a method for transferring control between one or more destination component devices and one or more source component devices, the control needed to process a plurality of state objects while still maintaining integrity of established network communications, the computer program product comprising one or more computer-readable media having thereon computer-executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors at the host computing system, cause the host computing system to perform the method, the method comprising the following:an act of generating (810) a hierarchical offload data structure comprising a plurality of state objects of one or more intermediate software layers, wherein each of the one or more intermediate software layers corresponds to a level of the hierarchical offload data structure;an act of transferring (830) from a source component device to a destination component device two or more state objects in the same intermediate software layer of the offload data structure;and an act of the destination component processing (840) the two or more state objects at the same protocol layer after the transfer;wherein the offload data structure includes a block list having at least a next block pointer (547, 560, 562, 570, 572) that points to the same intermediate software layer of a different connection path through the network protocol stack, and a dependent block pointer (537, 542, 557) that points to a different hierarchical layer of the same connection path through the network protocol stack.
