  1. 1
A method for transmission of data packets through a network, where said network is configured as ring, star or bus network with central nodes (node_0 - node_9) without storage capabilities, where at least some of the central nodes (node_0, node_2, node_4, node_6, node_8) have at least one associated edge node (Edge_0 - Edge_4) comprising an electrical and an optical domain, whereby an edge node (Edge_0 - Edge_4) is connected with one central node (node_0 - node_9), where said edge nodes (Edge_0 - Edge_4) receive said data packets and generate an associated header for a data packet or a burst comprising aggregated data packets, where said header is sent previous to the data packet or burst from the edge node (Edge_0) to the associated central node (node_0), where the header is evaluated, a path is reserved for the associated burst and the header is sent to the next central node (node_1), where the same procedure is repeated in order to establish a path through the central nodes (node_0 - node_9) of the network to a destination of the data packet or burst, where after sending of a header from the edge node (Edge_0) to the associated central node (node_0) and after evaluation of the header in the central node (node_0) the requested reservation is compared to previous reservations of other headers and in case of a reservation conflict the associated central node (node_0) determines a time or a time lag for an occupancy of the central node (node_0) and sends an answer, where said time or time lag is contained, to the originating edge node (Edge_0), where said answer is evaluated, the sending of the data packet or burst is abandoned, the data packet or burst is stored in the electrical domain of the edge node (Edge_0) and after expiring of said time or time lag a header is sent again to the associated central node (node_0), to try a new reservation for a transmission of said data packet or burst.
  2. 2
A method for transmission of data packets through a network, where said network is configured as ring, star or bus network with central nodes (node_0 - node_9) without storage capabilities, where at least some of the central nodes (node_0, node_2, node_4, node_6, node_8) have at least one associated edge node (Edge_0 - Edge_4) comprising an electrical and an optical domain, whereby an edge node (Edge_0 - Edge_4) is connected with one central node (node_0 - node_9), where said edge nodes (Edge_0 - Edge_4) receive said data packets and generate an associated header for a data packet or a burst comprising aggregated data packets, where said header is sent previous to the data packet or burst from the edge node (Edge_0) to the associated central node (node_0), where the header is evaluated, a path is reserved for the associated data packet or burst and the header is sent to the next central node (node_1), where the same procedure is repeated in order to establish a path through the central nodes (node_0 - node_9) of the network to a destination of the data packet or burst, where after sending of a header from the edge node (Edge_0) to the associated central node (node_0) and after evaluation of the header in the central node (node_0) the requested reservation is compared to previous reservations of other headers and in case of a reservation conflict the associated central node (node_0) schedules a reservation for the data packet or burst of the associated header, determines a particular time or a time lag for transmission of said packet or burst, sends an answer, where said particular time or time lag is contained, to the originating edge node (Edge_0), where said answer is evaluated, the sending of the data packet or burst is abandoned, the data packet or burst is stored in the electrical domain of the edge node (Edge_0) and after expiring of said time or time lag the data packet or burst is sent to the associated central node (node_0) to use the scheduled reservation.
  3. 4
The method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that IP packets are used as incoming packets.
  4. 5
The method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the method is used in an Optical Burst Switched network.
  5. 7
The method as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the method is used in an Optical Packet Switched network.
