10 claims: 2 independent, 8 dependent

  1. 1
A light emitting diode drive apparatus (10 ; 10A ; 10B ; 10C ; 47) for driving a plurality of light emitting diodes (20-1,...,20-n) comprising :a power supply circuit (15;101) a plurality of current drive circuits (13-1,...,13-n) connected to corresponding light emitting diodes of said plurality of light emitting diodes (20-1,...,20-n), said plurality of drive circuits (13-1,...,13-n) being adapted to drive the corresponding light emitting diodes (20-1,...,20-n) with luminances based on set values (IA1,...,IAn);said light emitting diode drive apparatus (10 ;10A ;10B ;10C ;47) being characterized in that each current drive circuit comprises a current source (131) connected to a cathode of the corresponding light emitting diode, and in that it further comprises : a decision circuit (14 ;14C) adapted to compare a plurality of detection voltages (DV1,...,DVn) representative of the drive states of said plurality of drive circuits, with a reference voltage (Vref), for deciding a drive voltage value required for the highest light emission among one or more light emitting diodes driven to emit light, wherein said value is based on the drive states of said plurality of drive circuits and in that : said power supply circuit (15;101) is adapted to supply an output drive voltage (VDRV) to an anode of each light emitting diode of said plurality of light emitting diodes, in response to the decision result (S14) of said decision circuit (14 ;14C).
  2. 10
A portable apparatus (40) having a battery as a power supply voltage source, comprising:a plurality of light emitting diodes (20-7, 20-8, 20-9, 20-1, 20-2, 20-3, 20-4, 20-5, 20-6) of different drive voltages required for the light emission;at least one illuminated portion illuminated by said light emitting diode;and characterized in that it further comprises: a light emitting diode drive apparatus (47) according to any of claims 1 to 9 wherein said power supply circuit (15;101) is adapted to supply a power supply voltage (VDRV) as the drive voltage to said plurality of light emitting diodes, in response to the decision result of said decision circuit (14).
