    A method of managing a memory associated with a computer, the memory including a user area (121) and a protected security area (PSA), the user area (121) including a first master boot record (123) area and the PSA (122) including a second master boot record (124) area, the method comprising:assigning a first partition (#0) to the user area (121);storing first partition information in the first master boot record (123) area of the user area, the first partition information pertaining to the first partition (#0);assigning a second partition (#1) to the PSA (122) in response to an access signal, the access signal authorizing access to the PSA (122);storing, in the first master boot record (123) area, second partition information pertaining to the second partition (#1);storing the second partition information in the PSA (122);and removing the second partition information from the first master boot record (123) area after storing the second partition information in the PSA (122).

    The method of any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the step of storing the second partition (#1) information in the PSA (122) includes:copying the second partition information from the first master boot record (123) area into the PSA (122).

    The method of any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the step of assigning the first partition (#0) occurs in response to a limiting signal, the limiting signal limiting access to the PSA (122).

    The method of any of claims 1 to 5, further comprising:setting the memory to limit access to the PSA (122) after the removing step.

    The method of any of claims 1 to 6, wherein the step of assigning the first partition, the memory is a hard disc drive associated with the computer.

    The method of any of claims 1 to 7, further comprising:storing at least one recovery program in the second partition (#1).

    The method of any of claims 1 to 10, further comprising:adjusting a size of at least one partition of the memory in response to a user input;updating the first master boot record (123) area in accordance with the adjusted size of the at least one partition;and storing, in the PSA (122), a copy of information in the updated first master boot record (123) area.

    The method of any of claims 1 to 11, wherein the user are is accessible by an end user, and the PSA (122) is not accessible by the end user.

    The method of any of claims 1 to 12, wherein the first master boot record (123) area is located at a first section of the user area (121).

    The method of any of claims 1 to 13, further comprising:inserting an identification code in the PSA (122), the identification code identifying the memory;and controlling a recovery operation of the memory based on the identification code.

    An apparatus for managing a memory associated with a computer, the memory including a user area (121) and a protected security area (PSA), the user area including a first master boot record (123) area and the PSA (122) including a second master boot record (124) area, the apparatus comprising:means for assigning a first partition (#0) to the user area (121);means for storing first partition information in the first master boot record (123) area of the user area (121), the first partition information pertaining to the first partition (#0);means for assigning a second partition (#1) to the PSA (122) in response to an access signal, the access signal authorizing access to the PSA (122);means for storing, in the first master boot record (123) area, second partition information pertaining to the second partition (#1);means for storing the second partition information in the PSA (122);and means for removing the second partition information from the first master boot record (123) area after storing the second partition information in the PSA (122).

    The apparatus of any of claims 15 to 17, wherein the means for storing the second partition information in the PSA (122) copies the second partition information from the first master boot record (123) area into the PSA (122).

    The apparatus of any of claims 15 to 18, wherein the means for assigning the first partition (#0) assigns the first partition (#0) in response to a limiting signal, the limiting signal limiting access to the PSA (122).

    The apparatus of any of claims 15 to 19, further comprising:means for limiting access to the PSA (122), wherein the access to the PSA (122) is limited after the means for removing removes the second partition information from the first master boot record (123) area.

    A computer system comprising:a user input unit (6);a display unit (4);a microprocessor (1) to control the display unit (4) and the user input unit (6);and a memory being controlled by the microprocessor (1) and including a user area (121) including a first master boot record (123) area and a protected security area (PSA) including a second master boot record (124) area , wherein the user area (121) includes a first partition (#0), and first partition information stored in the first master boot record (123) area, the first partition information pertaining to the first partition (#0), the PSA (122) includes a second partition (#1) and second partition information in response to an access signal, the access signal authorizing access to the PSA (122), the second partition information pertaining to the second partition (#1), and the first master boot record (123) area also stores therein the second partition information, which is removed after the second partition information is provided in the PSA (122).

    A computer program product embodied on at least one computer-accessible medium, for managing a memory associated with a computer, the memory including a user area (121) and a protected security area (PSA), the user area (121) including a first master boot record (123) area and the PSA (122) including a second master boot record (124) area, the computer program product comprising computer-executable instructions which, when executed on a computer, perform the steps of:assigning a first partition (#0) to the user area (121);storing first partition information in the first master boot record (123) area of the user area, the first partition information pertaining to the first partition (#0);assigning a second partition (#1) to the PSA (122) in response to an access signal, the access signal authorizing access to the PSA (122);storing, in the first master boot record (123) area, second partition information pertaining to the second partition (#1);storing the second partition information in the PSA (122);and removing the second partition information from the first master boot record (123) area after storing the second partition information in the PSA (122).

    The computer program product of any of claims 30 to 32, wherein the computer-executable instructions for storing the second partition information in the PSA (122) include computer-executable instructions for:copying the second partition information from the first master boot record (123) area into the PSA (122).

    The computer program product of any of claims 30 to 33, wherein the computer-executable instructions for assigning the first partition (#0) assign in response to a limiting signal, the limiting signal limiting access to the PSA (122).

    The computer program product of any of claims 30 to 34, further comprising computer-executable instructions for:setting the memory to limit access to the PSA (122) after the second partition information is removed from the first master boot record (123) area.

    The computer program product of any of claims 30 to 36, further comprising computer-executable instructions for:storing at least one recovery program in the second partition (#1).

    The computer program product of any of claims 30 to 39, further comprising computer-executable instructions for:adjusting a size of at least one partition of the memory in response to a user input;updating the first master boot record (123) area in accordance with the adjusted size of the at least one partition;and storing, in the PSA (122), a copy of information in the updated first master boot record (123) area.
