Claims of equivalent WO 03092979 A1 WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:1. A method for directing flow of an in-mold coating on a substrate comprising the steps of: forming a substrate having a main portion including a show surface, a back surface, and a thickness therebetween, said substrate having an area of increased dimensional thickness at an in-mold coating injection area relative to at least one second area to direct in-mold coating flow;and injecting an in-mold coating on said injection area of said substrate show surface.
  2. 5
A method according to one of claims 1 -A, wherein said substrate has a thickness ratio at said injection area to said second area of about 1.10:1 to about 10:1.
  3. 6
A method according to one of claims 1 -5, wherein said substrate has a thickness ratio at said injection area to said second area of about 1.3:1 to about 1.5:1.
  4. 7
A method according to one of claims 1-6, wherein said substrate includes at least one runner section entering from said injection area to a terminus to promote flow of said in-mold coating to said show surface.
  5. 8
A method according to one of claims 1-7, wherein said in-mold coating is a thermosetting acrylic composition.
  6. 9
A method according to one of claims 1-8, wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange extending substantially around the perimeter of said show surface.
  7. 10
A method according to one of claims 1 -9, wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange that has a thickness less than a thickness between said show surface and said back surface.
  8. 11
A method according to one of claims 1-10, wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange that has a sufficiently minimal thickness in a plane offset from said show surface so that said in-mold coating is substantially prevented from coating said flange.
  9. 12
A method according to one of claims 1-11 , wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange that is formed as a wedge, a triangle, or a semicircle, and wherein said flange extends around at least 85%-90% of said perimeter of said substrate main portion.
  10. 13
A method according to one of claims 1-12, wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange that is formed as a wedge.
  11. 14
A method according to one of claims 1-13, wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange that has a depth of less than about 0.70 mm at a point of attachment to said substrate main portion.
  12. 15
A method according to one of claims 1-14, wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange that has a depth less than about 0.50 mm at a point of attachment to said substrate main portion.
  13. 16
A method according to one of claims 1-15, wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange that has a depth of about 0.05 mm to about 0.50 mm at a point of attachment to said substrate main portion.
  14. 17
A method according to one of claims 1-16, wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange and a width of said flange from an attachment point to said substrate main portion to an outer edge thereof is from about 1 to about 10 mm.
  15. 18
A method according to one of claims 1-17, wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange and a width of said flange from an attachment point to said substrate main portion to an outer edge thereof is from about 2.5 to about 10 mm.
  16. 19
A method according to one of claims 1-18, wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange that has a greater depth at an outer end than where said flange is connected to said substrate main portion.
  17. 20
A method according to one of claims 1-19 wherein said substrate includes an in-mold coating containment flange that is removable from said substrate main portion.
