  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 03087902 A2 We claim:1. A tunable optical filter comprising: a first optical assembly for receiving an incident optical signal that can be divided into a plurality of components;a second optical assembly for providing a filtered optical signal;and a plurality of independently tunable filter elements, wherein each of said elements is located along a different optical path, wherein each of said paths passes through said first and second assemblies, and wherein each of said filter elements filters a different one of said plurality of components such that, when said components are combined, said filtered optical signal is formed.
  2. 37
A tunable optical filter for filtering an incident optical beam provided by an input fiber, wherein said beam comprises a plurality of optical components that each travels along a different optical path, each of which starts at said input fiber and ends at an output fiber, said filter comprising:an etalon comprising a two-dimensional array of independently tunable filter elements, wherein each of said elements is located along at least one of said optical paths, such that a filtered optical signal is formed at said output fiber.
  3. 55
A method of tunable optical filtering that uses a number of independently tunable filter elements, said method comprising:dividing an incident optical beam into a plurality of beam components;filtering each of said components with at least one of said filter elements;and combining said components after said filtering to form a filtered optical beam.
  4. 69
An add/drop optical multiplexing device comprising:a plurality of independently tunable filter elements, wherein each of said elements is located along a different optical path;an input port positioned to provide an multiplexed optical signal to said elements, said signal comprising a plurality of optical channels comprising at least a first channel at a first wavelength and a second channel at a second wavelength;an add port positioned to provide an additional optical channel at said first wavelength to said elements;an output positioned to receive at least said second channel and said additional optical channel;and a drop port positioned to receive said first channel.
  5. 72
An optical add/drop multiplexing device comprising:a plurality of independently tunable filter elements, wherein each of said elements is located along a different optical path;a first port positioned to provide a first incident beam to said plurality of filter elements;a second port positioned to provide a second incident beam to said plurality of filter elements;a third port positioned to receive at least a first portion of the first incident beam after reflection by said plurality of filter elements and a first portion of the second incident after transmission through said plurality of filter elements;and a fourth port positioned to receive at least a second portion of the first incident beam after transmission by said plurality of filter elements.
  6. 75
An optical filtering device comprising:a plurality of independently tunable filter elements, wherein each of said elements is located along a different optical path;and a first circulator having a first port, a second port, and a third port, wherein said plurality of filter elements is optically aligned with at least one of said first circular ports.
