  1. 1
A method of synchronization of a powerline network (10) for a plurality of devices (16, 18), comprising the steps of:providing a plurality of devices (16, 18) each having a powerline modem (20) and a clock circuit (22) for synchronizing a data rate, the powerline modem (20) permitting data transmission between the plurality of devices (16, 18) over the powerline modem network (10) on data carriers (28);and transmitting a synchronization signal over the powerline network (10), the synchronization signal providing each of the plurality of devices (16, 18) a time reference to synchronize the data.rate, the synchronization signal being a carrier (30) operating at a frequency different from the data carriers (28) and characterized in that only the synchronisation signal carrier (30) has a slotted time structure) with timeslots assigned to the plurality of devices (16,18) for responding to said synchronization signal, and wherein each of the plurality of devices (16, 18) sounds off during a respective assigned time slot on the synchronization signal carrier (30) to indicate synchronisation.
  2. 6
A powerline network (10) with data synchronization, comprising:a plurality of devices (16, 18) each having a powerline modem (20) and a clock circuit (22) for synchronizing a data rate, the powerline modem (20) permitting data transmission between the plurality of devices (16, 18) over the powerline network (10) on data carriers (28);and a master device (14) having a powerline modem (20) coupled to the powerline network (10) and including a clock transmission circuit (24), the clock transmission circuit (24) for generating a synchronization signal and transmitting the synchronization signal over the powerline network (10), the synchronization signal providing each of the plurality of devices (16, 18) a time reference to synchronize the data rate, the synchronization signal being a carrier (30) operating at a frequency different from the data carriers (28) and characterized in that only the synchronisation signal carrier (30) has a slotted time structure with time slots assigned to the plurality of devices (16,18) for responding to said synchronization signal, and the devices (16, 18) have means to sound off during a respective assigned time slot on the synchronisation signal carrier (30) to indicate synchronization.
