Method for displaying standardized large-format Internet pages with, for example, HTML protocol in single-handed devices with mobile connection. The invention relates to a method for displaying standardized Internet pages with HTML protocol in single-handed devices with mobile connection according to the preamble of claim 1. The Internet is now a popular means of communication with exponentially increasing numbers of users. One of the most important applications of the Internet is the World Wide Web (WWW) which is operated on the basis of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) (now also XML-a protocol extension), s. Ref. 1, p. 650 ff.
The domestic or operational personal computer (PC) serves as an access device. It is operated with an Internet browser (for example Microsoft Explorer or Netscape Navigator) as well as, if necessary, access software for Internet access (via an Internet Service Provider), which provides the so-called client application. The remote site is a server or host computer on the Internet, which provides the desired information via HTML pages. The HTML protocol is transmitted using TCP / IP protocol as a means of transport. All protocols are standardized by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force WWW IETF.ORG) and are constantly being extended.
As a result of ergonomic sensitization and falling price in the appliance market, today a 17-inch PC monitor with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels can be regarded as a standard.
On these vision devices, the HTML pages can be excellently displayed. Since a payment for information on the Internet is sometimes not common, live the
Service provider mainly from advertising revenue. These are displayed as colorful still or moving images in the HTML pages, taking advantage of the large-scale monitor.
On the other hand, digital packet-oriented transmission services are currently being introduced in the area of mobile communications (GSM-GPRS, or in future UMTS). These services allow the transmission of TCP / IP protocols and the fast Internet access (Lit.2, page 15, With Tempo in the net). If not just a notebook or a PC with ergonomic screen after the mobile device (mobile phone) is used, but the display of the mobile device itself serves as a viewing device, but there are significant problems. Apart from the fact that the technical possibilities for the display of HTML sides in the device-side display are not yet given, there are insoluble optical problems. The displayed information would simply be too small so that it can not be read by the human eye.
It follows, however, that the entire global stock of websites for mobile operation with one-hand devices, such as mobile phones or PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) can not be used!
This was recognized early, so that the industry could remedy the situation. New protocols, such as WML (Wireless Markup Language) or WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) are in the standardization. Lit 2 (p.18ff, WAP report) provides an overview of the available services and the image quality of the displays. The basic procedure for wireless services is based on the fact that reduced, easy-to-read information is displayed on the displays.
Disadvantage of the procedure, however, is that the entire stock of HTML pages on the Internet for this process can not be used and the WAP pages must be created separately and maintained separately.
The present invention has for its object to propose a method based on conventional standardized Internet sites, for example, according to HTML or XML protocol using small-sized single-handed devices (such as mobile phone or personal digital assistant PDA) are displayed with small-sized displays for display can.
This problem is solved by the characterizing features of patent claim 1.
The invention will be explained using drawing figures, which represent here only one possible embodiment using the example of a schematically depicted device. Fig. 1 shows an example of any Internet page with browser window. The latter is important so that the settings are visible and the "Address" field allows the entry of the so-called URL for navigation on the Internet.
Fig. 2 shows the result when this Internet page is shrunk to a realistic display format. The size of the device in the figure corresponds approximately to the actual size of a mobile device, the display is already shown very large. Nothing can be read here.
Fig. 3 shows the procedure according to the invention. The standard HTML page on the Internet, optionally with a browser field, is used for display.
The information shown is reduced to a still legible measure (3.1) and partial (3.3) in the display of the mobile device (3.2) displayed. This method is applicable to both HTML pages that unilaterally fill a larger screen, and those that exceed the display size of larger screens and are usually transported across the available screen by means of sideways scroll control (in the standard Microsoft and Netscape browsers).
An essential prerequisite for the acceptance and thus for the commercial success of such a solution is the ergonomic control (operation / navigation) of the display.
It is realized as follows.
The starting point for the explanation is the complete reduction of the HTML page to the existing display format. This representation serves as an overview for the rough recognition of the relevant point with the desired information. A pointing instrument (similar to the mouse pointer on the PC) is moved to the relevant position, for example by means of the positioning key (3.4), by voice control or optionally by means of a pen or finger on a touch-sensitive display. Thereafter, pressing a zoom button (3.5) switches to an enlarged display. The latter can be stepless or in at least two stages (large / small). Optionally, this function can be triggered by sensitive display.
The result of this magnification can be seen in FIG. 3.3. By pressing the button again, a downshift to the reduced display, after which it can be selected again. Additionally, when the display is enlarged, the displayed area can be selected arbitrarily as a section of a virtual larger screen by repositioning the pointer function, wherein the image section is preferably moved continuously over the virtual image when the pointer instrument abuts one of the display edges.
There are thus two alternative methods of conveniently navigating the small display within a larger virtual image. The keys used can be assigned several times for other functions. Furthermore, the two tactile elements used for the display control should be arranged on the front, side or back of the device so that they can be operated with one hand without changing the handle position. The technical realization is such that two image memories are available. A large image memory stores the virtual representation. The current image section is copied into the smaller image memory, which serves as a buffer for the display. In an alternative embodiment, a part of the large image memory is used as a display memory by the memory areas, which are relevant for the respective display display, are used as memory addresses (pixel vectors) for the display display. These
Execution saves space and especially copy time. The reduced full display, or different magnifications, however, require a second image memory for the display display, wherein the information of the virtual image by computational
Conversion (or removal of pixels) is reduced to the smaller size. The remaining virtual image memory ensures that it is possible to switch back to a larger display at any time without losing image information due to previous reduction.
Fig. 3 shows only the controls that are useful for the display control. The buttons are shown for the sake of clarity only by way of example on the top of the housing. Other controls for device functions are not shown since not essential in the context of the invention.
Figs. 4 and 5 show the same situation with a PDA (common device format). literature
