  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 03026802 A2 CLAIMS The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:1. A rotor assembly for a centrifuge for separating components contained in a fluid, comprising: a separation assembly for receiving a liquid component, wherein said separation assembly includes a collection reservoir having an inner elongated portion, an outer collection portion with side walls tapering to the central axis of the collection reservoir, and a port fluidically connected to a liquid source and a collection device;and a mounting assembly for rigidly attaching the separation assembly to the centrifuge, wherein the mounting assembly includes at least one fastening mechanism for supporting the separation assembly and position the separation assembly relative to the centrifuge.
  2. 2
An apparatus for mounting on a rotor of a compact centrifuge to facilitate separation and collection of fluid components while retaining balanced weight distribution ofthe centrifuge during rotation, comprising:an elongated first collection chamber;and an elongated second collection chamber positioned such that the central axes ofthe first and second collection chamber are substantially coplanar, wherein each of the collection chambers comprises an elongated inner portion, wherein the elongated inner portions are in fluidic communication, and wherein the first and second collection chambers each include a port for simultaneously supplying an equal volume of fluid to the first and second collection chambers.
  3. 12
A mounting assembly for mounting a fluid collection disposable with a number of collection chambers to a centrifuge in a weight-balanced and detachable fashion, comprising:a mounting plate adapted for rigid attachment to a rotor of the centrifuge and having a hole for providing passage for a fluid tube from the rotor;for each of the collection chambers, a saddle support attached to a surface of the mounting plate for contacting at least a portion of outer surfaces of the collection chambers and extending away from and positioned equidistally relative to a central axis of the mounting plate;and means for rigidly mounting the collection chambers to the saddle supports.
  4. 19
A centrifugal processing system, comprising:means for selectively supplying fluid with components;means for receiving and containing the supplied fluid in substantially equal volume and component quantities to provide balanced distribution of the supplied fluid during rotation operations;means for selectively rotating the receiving and containing means to separate the components into two or more circular component bands;and means for removing the separated components in the fluid bands from the receiving and containing means.
  5. 24
A centrifugal method of separating and collecting components from fluid, comprising:providing a centrifuge operable at a plurality of rotation speeds and having a mounting assembly for positioning and retaining a disposable collection assembly relative to the centrifuge at the rotation speeds;mounting a separation assembly comprising a number of collection chambers in the mounting assembly, wherein each ofthe collection chambers include an outer, conical- shaped collection portion with a port for providing a fluid pathway for the fluid into and out of the collection chambers and wherein the mounting includes fluidically connecting the ports with a fluid tube;connecting a fluid source to the fluid tube;rotating the centrifuge at a fill speed;and operating the fluid source to supply the fluid to the fluid tube, whereby the fluid is concurrently supplied in substantially equal volumetric and component density quantities to each ofthe collection chambers.
  6. 26
The method of Clam 25, wherein the fill speed is about 1000 rpm.
