    A system for distributing information to a plurality of group members (26, 28) connected via a communication network (12),comprising:a content control manager (18, 40), hereinafter abbreviated as "CCM", adapted to process said information into at least one assignment for a distribution job, said at least one assignment comprising a set of commands and a set of said information for distribution, the content control manager adapted to manage said distribution of said at least one assignment to said plurality of group members;a set of group leaders (30), each group leader having a corresponding set of group members, each group leader adapted to communicate with said CCM, adapted to forward said assignments to other group leaders in said set of group leaders according to commands from said CCM, and adapted to forward said assignments to each member of said corresponding set of group members;a plurality of group members, each group member being associated with a command interpreter for carrying out said assignments on each group member, whereby said system communicates said information to each of said group members characterized in that : said group members of a group are adapted to select a corresponding group leader (30).

    A method of distributing information via a communication network, comprising the steps of :determining (303) a content change in a source file;determining a set of destination servers for receiving an update;identifying a network segment corresponding to each destination server;generating (305) a sequence of update commands for said destination servers;obtaining (307) a list of said network segments for delivery of said sequence to said set of destination servers ;communicating (309) said sequence to a group leader (30) of each of said network segments on said list;forwarding (311) said sequence to each destination server (26, 28) within said network segment;and executing (313) said sequence on at least some of said destination servers;characterized in that the method further comprises the step of: nominating the group leader for each said network segment, wherein said nominating is performed by destination servers within said network segment.
