  1. 1
A method for decoding variable length TFCI, Transport Format Combination Indicator, bits for a DSCH, Downlink Shared Channel, or for a DCH, Dedicated Channel, in a reception device for a mobile communication system, which receives a signal of encoded TFCI bits for the DSCH or for the DCH, encoded with orthogonal codes, comprising the steps of:determining a number of inverse fast Hadamard transform, IFHT, stages based on the length of the TFCI bits;inserting "0"s in the received signal at predetermined positions to form a zero-inserted signal;sequentially performing inverse fast Hadamard transform on the zero-inserted signal up to the determined number of IFHT stages;and after completion of the inverse fast Hadamard transform by the determined number of IFHT stages, outputting the index of an orthogonal code, which correlation value is larger than other the correlation values achieved by the determined IFHT stages, as decoded TFCI bits.
  2. 5
An apparatus for decoding variable length TFCI bits for a DSCH or for a DCH in a reception device for a mobile communication system, which receives a signal of encoded TFCI bits for the DSCH or for the DCH, encoded with orthogonal codes, the apparatus comprising:a controller (770, 1430) for informing a code length information and zero inserting positions to an inserter;an inserter (700, 1400) for inserting "0"s in the received signal at the zero inserting positions to form a zero-inserted signal;an inverse fast Hadamard transformer, IFHT, (720-735, 1420, 1422, 1424, 1426) having multiple operating stages, for calculating correlation values of the zero-inserted signal with the orthogonal codes    wherein the IFHT stops performing inverse fast Hadamard transform at a given operating stage corresponding to the code length information;the apparatus further comprising    a comparator (740, 1440) for comparing the correlation values and outputting a Walsh index corresponding to the highest correlation value.
