  1. 1
Claims of equivalent WO 0013628 A2 TT TS CLATMEP:1. In a medical treatment apparatus capable of simultaneously projecting against an eye a plurality of electromagnetic radiation spots spaced around a circumference of a circle, wherein the diameter of the circle and rotatable position of the spots therearound .are controllable, a method of treating a patient eye, comprising: storing, within a memory of the apparatus, parameters of exposures of the patient eye to at least first and second radiation spot patterns to provide a desired correction of the patient eye, the exposure parameters including radiation energy, circle diameter, rotatable position of the spots and relative attenuation of the individual spots, adjusting the apparatus according to the stored parameters of exposure to the first radiation spot pattern, thereafter projecting the first radiation spot pattern against the given patient eye from the apparatus adjusted to its parameters of exposure, thereafter adjusting the apparatus according to the parameters of exposure to the second radiation spot pattern, and thereafter projecting the second radiation spot pattern against the given patient eye from the apparatus adjusted to its parameters of exposure.
  2. 12
Medical treatment apparatus including an instrument capable of simultaneously projecting a pattern of both invisible treatment electromagnetic radiation and superimposed visible non-treatment electromagnetic radiation against a patient eye, comprising:a guide against which a head of a patient is positionable to hold an eye of the patient that is being treated a controlled distance from the instrument, said mechanism including a sensor that provides a first signal related to movement of the head with respect to the guide that is away from the instrument, at least one optical element that is moveable to position the radiation pattern across the patient eye being treated, an eye tracker that optically observes a position of said patient eye with respect to a reference and provides a second electrical signal related to a difference therebetween, and a control system that operates in response to the second control signal to move said at least one optical element an amount related to the second signal to compensate for eye movement and to prevent exposure of the eye to treatment radiation when either the first signal indicates head movement in excess of a first predetermined amount or the second signal indicates eye movement in excess of a second predetermined amount.
  3. 13
A method a calibrating a medical treatment instrument that directs a defined pattern of electromagnetic radiation to a patient from a source of electromagnetic radiation, comprising:positioning a detector in the path of the radiation pattern, driving the radiation source to direct the defined pattern of radiation with a predetermined level onto the detector, obtaining a signal related to the detected level of the radiation pattern, calibrating the electromagnetic radiation source in accordance with the detected level of the radiation pattern, driving the radiation source to direct a first portion of the defined pattern of radiation onto the detector, obtaining a signal related to the detected level of the first portion of the defined radiation pattern, thereafter driving the radiation source to direct a second portion of the defined pattern of radiation onto the detector, obtaining a signal related to the detected level of the second portion of the defined radiation pattern, comparing the signals of the detected levels of the first and second portions of the defined radiation pattern, and adjusting a balance in the distribution of the level of radiation over the predefined pattern in order to maintain a desired relationship between the signals of the detected levels of the first and second portions of the defined radiation pattern.
  4. 17
A method of individually authorizing operation of a plurality of medical instruments at different locations that individually perform a medical procedure, comprising:maintaining within individual ones of the treatment instruments a stored count of a number of medical treatment procedures for which pre-payment has been made for the individual instrument to perform, removing one from the count of pre-paid medical treatment procedures each time an individual instrument performs the medical procedure, permitting an individual one of the treatment instruments to perform the medical treatment procedure only if the count of said one instrument indicates that at least one such procedure has been pre-paid, and providing for the stored count of the number of pre-paid medical treatment procedures within the treatment instruments to be increased upon payment being made.
  5. 22
A method of operating a plurality of medical instruments at different user locations that individually perform a medical procedure with certain parameters of the instrument being set according to a condition of a patient being treated, comprising:causing individual ones of the instruments to automatically generate a record of said certain parameters used by the instrument to perform the medical procedure on a given patient, causing the records stored in the individual medical instruments to be transmitted over an Internet connection from the individual instruments to a data processing center, storing at the data processing center in a common database the individual records of said certain parameters that are transmitted from the individual medical instruments, and providing access over the Internet by individual ones of the user locations to the common database, whereby the treatment parameters used by others are available to the various user locations.
