15 claims: 3 independent, 12 dependent

  1. 1
An electrical device for use with a circuit which has an exhaustible power source (101) and a light source (105) which is powered by the said power source, said device including at least one signal switch (102, 1111) and a microchip (103) in communication with the signal switch and the power source, wherein the signal switch is an MMI signal switch which is not a serial part of an energy transfer circuit from the power source to the light source, and wherein the microchip (103) controls a power switch (202) for connecting the power source to, and disconnecting the power source from, the light source, characterized by means (103) for providing a find-in-the-dark function by activating an indicator (1104), wherein said indicator (1104) additionally indicates to an operator the charge remaining in the power source (101) and/or the open or closed position of the signal switch (102, 1111).
  2. 2
An electrical device for use with a circuit which has an exhaustible power source (101) and a light source (105) which is powered by the said power source, said device including at least one signal switch (102, 106), and a microchip (103) in communication with the signal switch and the power source, wherein the signal switch (102, 106) is an MMI signal switch which is not a serial part of an energy transfer circuit from the power source to the light source, and wherein the microchip (103) controls a power switch (202) for connecting the power source (101) to and disconnecting the power source (101) from the light source (105), having means (103) for providing a power adjusting function in response to at least one signal from the signal switch (102, 106), characterized in that the electrical device comprises a timing device (203) which can be started by an actuation of the signal switch (102, 106) for measuring a time period, and in that the microchip (103) controls the power switch (202) resulting from a detection of an actuation of the signal switch (102) dependent on the duration of the measured time period between successive operations or successive actuations of the signal switch (102, 106), so that the signal switch (102, 106) functions:a) initially as an on-switch, b) to select at least one other mode, if the measured time period between successive operations or successive actuations of the signal switch (102, 106) is within a certain time period, and c) as an off-switch, if more than a certain time period is allowed to pass between consecutive presses or closures of the signal switch (102, 106).
  3. 5
An electrical device according to any one of claims 1 to 4 characterized in that the microchip (103) recognizes that a number of successive activation/deactivation signals received from the signal switch (102) corresponds to a specific said at least one function.
  4. 6
An electrical device according to any one of claims 1 to 5 characterized in that the said signal switch (102) includes more than one input means with each input means (1004 - 1007) indicating a different command function recognizable by the microchip.
  5. 7
An electrical device according to any one of claims 1 to 6 characterized in that the function of the signal switch is dependent on the time period of the switch actuation, or the time period between successive actuations of the signal switch or a combination thereof.
  6. 8
An electrical device according to any one of claims 1 to 7 characterized in that the signal switch is selected from:(a) a momentary contact type switch;and (b) a latching type switch.
  7. 10
An electrical device for use with an exhaustible power source (101) and a load (105) which is powered by the said power source, said device including at least one signal switch (102) and a microchip (103) which is in communication with the signal switch and the power source and which is characterized in that the signal switch (102) is an MMI signal switch which is not a serial part of an energy transfer circuit from the power source to the load, and which is further characterized in that it includes an energy storage device (205), and a power switch (202) for controlling energy flow from the power source to the load, and wherein when the power switch (202) is closed, energy from the storage device (205) is used to power the microchip and, when the power switch (202) is open, energy from the power source is used to power the microchip.
  8. 15
An electrical device according to any one of claims 10 to 13 characterized in that the microchip (103) includes means for providing a delayed shut off function in response to at least an on signal from the said signal switch (102).
