A current detector for detecting or measuring an electric current, comprising - a Hall-effect device (1) for generating a voltage proportional to magnetic field strength, - a metal-made baseplate (2, 2a-2d) mechanically supporting the Hall-effect device (1), and - a pair of current path terminals (3 and 4) for the inflow and outflow, respectively, of a current to be detected or measured, in which said baseplate (2, 2a-2d) being slitted to define a current path (34, 34a-34d) having a pair of opposite ends connected respectively to the current path terminals (3 and 4), said current path (34, 34a-34d) being contiguous to the Hall-effect device (1) for causing the same to generate a voltage proportional to the magnitude of a current flowing through the current path (34, 34a-34d), said Hall-effect device (1) having a primary working part (23), said primary working part (23) being one of the semiconductor regions forming the Hall-effect device, exposed to a magnetic field generated by the current flowing through the current path for the development of the voltage proportional to the magnitude of the current flowing through the current path (34, 34a-34d) in the baseplate (2, 2a-2d), characterized in that said baseplate (2, 2a-2d) being slitted such that the current path (34, 34a-34d) in the baseplate (2, 2a-2d) has an U-shaped form, and said primary working part (23) is contained within the U-shaped current path (34, 34a-34d) as seen in a direction normal to the baseplate (2a-2d).
