Broadcast data receiver apparatus and system supporting VoIP calls

The invention relates to the ability to utilise a telecommunication connection preferably provided to a broadcast data receiver in a premises to allow the support of a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telecommunications system such that the base station for the same can be provided in one embodiment as part of the receiver. This therefore allows the provision, if required, of a POTS telecommunication system and a VoIP system to be provided within the premises, with a DECT handset or handsets.
