10 claims: 3 independent, 7 dependent

  1. 1
Apparatus for processing a composite signal which includes a first signal (L) and a second signal (R), the apparatus comprising:a processor (215) for deriving one or more coefficients (α i 0 , α i 1 ) describing localization cues defined by a relation between the first signal and the second signal;and a controller (231) for generating a representation of the composite signal, the representation containing first information (L*) derived from at least the first signal, and second information (P* R ) concerning at least the one or more coefficients, a value of the second signal being predictable in the spectral domain based on the first information and the second information.
  2. 7
Apparatus for processing a composite signal which includes a first signal (L) and a second signal (R), the apparatus comprising:a mixer (207) for generating a mixed signal (L*) based on the first signal and the second signal;a first coder (217) for coding the mixed signal to generate a representation of the mixed signal;a second coder (215) responsive to the mixed signal and the second signal for providing information (P* R ) concerning one or more coefficients (α i 0 , α l 1 ) for predicting the second signal in the spectral domain;and a processor (231) for generating a representation of the composite signal, the representation of the composite signal including the representation of the mixed signal and the information concerning the one or more coefficients;the one or more coefficients describing localization cues defined by a relation between the first signal and the second signal.
  3. 10
Apparatus for recovering a composite signal which includes a first signal (L) and a second signal (R), the apparatus comprising:an interface (125) for receiving a representation of the composite signal, the representation including first information (L*) derived from at least the first signal, and second information (P* R ) concerning one or more coefficients (α l 0 , α i 1 ) which describe localization cues defined by a relation between the first signal and the second signal;and a processor (130) for recovering the composite signal based on the representation, the processor predicting a value of the second signal in the spectral domain based on the first information and the second information in the representation in recovering the composite signal.
