Frequency converter and high frequency tuner

Abstract

A single conversion frequency converter comprises an image reject mixer (44) and a local oscillator (48 to 51). The local oscillator comprises a variable frequency oscillator (48) and a variable divider (49). The variable divider (49) supplies to the mixer (44) a local oscillator signal whose frequency is a sub-multiple of the frequency of the variable frequency oscillator (48).

12 claims: 7 independent, 5 dependent

  1. 1
A single conversion frequency converter comprising a mixer (44) and a local oscillator (48-51), the local oscillator (48-51) comprising a variable frequency oscillator (48) and a variable divider (49) for receiving from the variable frequency oscillator (48) a variable frequency signal and for supplying to the mixer (44) a local oscillator signal whose frequency is equal to the frequency of the variable frequency signal divided by any selected one of a plurality of integers, each of which is greater than one, characterised in that the mixer is an image reject mixer (44).
  2. 4
A converter as claimed in any one of the proceeding claims, characterised in that the variable frequency oscillator (48) comprises part of a frequency synthesiser (48, 50, 51).
  3. 6
A converter as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the input of the mixer (44) is connected to a signal input (40) via an automatic gain control circuit (42).
  4. 7
A converter as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the input of the mixer (44) is connected to a signal input (40) via a plurality of input stages.
  5. 8
A converter as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterised by comprising a single chip integrated circuit.
  6. 9
A radio frequency tuner characterised by comprising a converter (43) as claimed in any one of the preceding claims.
  7. 12
A tuner as claimed in any one of claims 9 to 11, characterised by comprising a single chip integrated circuit.
