A piloting circuit for an inductive load, in particular for a dc electric motor

Abstract

A piloting circuit comprises: a circuit branch (3) which is intended to be connected to a DC supply voltage source (4) in such a way as to receive a voltage of predetermined polarity, and in which, the drain-source path of a (first) MOSFET transistor (5) intended to receive an on-off piloting signal on its gate is connected in series with the load (2),a current recirculation diode (7) connected in parallel with the load (2), andcircuit protection devices (14) operable to prevent damage to the MOSFET transistor (5) and/or the diode (7) in the event of polarity reversal of the supply voltage. This protection function is provided by means of an electronic switch (14) disposed in series with the recirculation diode (7) and piloted in such a way as to prevent the flow of current in this diode (7) when a supply voltage of reversed polarity with respect to the said predetermined polarity is applied to the said circuit branch (3).

  1. 1
A piloting circuit for an inductive load (2), in particular for a DC electric motor (2), comprising a circuit branch (3) which is intended to be connected to a DC voltage supply source (4) in such a way as to receive a voltage of predetermined polarity, and in which the drain-source of a (first) MOSFET transistor (5) is disposed in series with the load (2), which MOSFET transistor is intended to receive an on-off piloting signal on its gate, a current recirculation diode (7) connected in parallel to the load (2), and protection circuit means (14) operable to prevent damage to the said MOSFET transistor (5) and/or the recirculation diode (7) in the case of polarity reversal of the supply voltage;characterised in that the said protection circuit means comprise an electronic switch (14) disposed in series with the recirculation diode (7) and piloted in such a way as to prevent the flow of current in the said recirculation diode (7) when a supply voltage of reversed polarity with respect to the predetermined polarity is applied to the said circuit branch (3).
  2. 10
A circuit according to any of Claims from 5 to 9, characterised in that in the recirculation circuit branch (37), in series with the said electronic protection switch or switches (14, 34) there is disposed a filter inductor (36) operable to limit the dissipation of power in the said protection switch or switches (14, 34).
  3. 11
A circuit according to any of claims 5 to 10, in which in parallel with the piloting circuit branch (3) there are disposed further capacitive means (38) having a lower capacity than that of the said polarised capacitor (32).
