Speech processing apparatus and method

Abstract

An apparatus is provided for checking the consistency between two training words which can be used in, for example, a speech recognition or verification system. Two training examples are aligned using a dynamic programming alignment process and an average frame score is calculated from the alignment results together with the worst score in a number of consecutive frames. These values are then compared with similar values obtained from training examples which are known to be consistent to determine if the training examples are consistent.

14 claims: 8 independent, 6 dependent

  1. 1
A consistency checking apparatus, comprising:means for receiving a first sequence of frames representative of a first signal and a second sequence of frames representative of a second signal;means for matching the frames representative of the first signal with the frames representative of the second signal and for generating a matching score indicative of the similarity between the first and second signals;means for determining an average frame score by dividing said matching score by the number of frames in said first signal which are matched with frames in said second signal;means for determining the score of a worst matching portion between said first and second signals;memory means for storing data defining a model of consistent training examples;means for comparing said average frame score and the score of said worst matching portion with said stored model;and means for determining if said first and second input signals are consistent with each other from the output of said comparing means.
  2. 6
A consistency checking apparatus for checking the consistency between a first sequence of frames representative of a first signal and a second sequence of frames representative of a second signal using a matching score and the results of a matching process performed on said first and second sequences of frames, the apparatus comprising:means for determining an average frame score by dividing said matching score by the number of frames in said first signal which are matched with frames in said second signal;means for determining the score of a worst matching portion between said first and second signals;means for comparing said average frame score and the score of said worst matching portion with a stored model which defines consistent training examples;and means for determining if said first and second input signals are consistent with each other from the output of said comparing means.
  3. 7
A consistency checking method, comprising the steps of:receiving a first sequence of frames representative of a first signal and a second sequence of frames representative of a second signal;matching the frames representative of the first signal with the frames representative of the second signal and for generating a matching score indicative of the similarity between the first and second signals;determining an average frame score by dividing said matching score by the number of frames in said first signal which are matched with frames in said second signal;determining the score of a worst matching portion between said first and second signals;comparing said average frame score and the score of said worst matching portion with a stored model which defines consistent training examples;and determining if said first and second input signals are consistent with each other from the output of said comparing step.
  4. 10
A method according to any of claims 7 to 9, wherein said model models the variation in the average frame scores and the scores of the worst matching portions and/or the correlation between the average frame scores and the scores of the worst matching portions in the set of training examples which are known to be consistent.
  5. 11
A method according to any of claims 7 to 10, wherein said matching step uses a dynamic programming technique to generate said matching score.
  6. 12
A consistency checking method of checking the consistency between a first sequence of frames representative of a first signal and a second sequence of frames representative of a second signal using a matching score and the results of a matching process performed on said first and second sequences of frames, the method comprising the steps of:determining an average frame score by dividing said matching score by the number of frames in said first signal which are matched with frames in said second signal;determining the score of a worst matching portion between said first and second signals;comparing said average frame score and the score of said worst matching portion with a stored model which defines consistent training examples;and determining if said first and second input signals are consistent with each other from the output of said comparing means.
  7. 13
A storage medium storing processor implementable instructions for controlling a processor to implement the method of any one of claims 7 to 12.
  8. 14
Processor implementable instructions for controlling a processor to implement the method of any one of claims 7 to 12.
