Method of graphics data compression

Abstract

The method of compression of graphics data, used for the coding of images in points mode (bitmap data), data consisting of a succession of addresses of a conversion table called symbols S, is characterized in that it comprises the following stages:a run-length coding (2) of the symbols so as, for each range of identical successive symbols, to give a number L corresponding to the number of identical symbols, associated with the symbol S,a variable-binary-resolution coding of L (3) as a function of the value of L. Applications relate particularly to coding and decoding of OSD (On Screen Display) data.
