23 claims: 16 independent, 7 dependent

  1. 1
Radiation-curable optical fiber coating composition comprising - about 10wt% to about 90wt% of at least one radiation-curable oligomer (A) comprising a backbone which is based on a polyether, polyester, polycarbonate, polyolefin or copolymers thereof, wherein the radiation-curable group in the oligomer is a (meth)acrylate group or a vinylether group, - about 10 wt% to about 90wt% of at least one radiation-curable reactive diluent (B), and - an effective amount of at least one photoinitiator (C) represented by formula (1):wherein AR 1 to AR 3 independently represent a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic group.
  2. 3
Composition according to any one of claims 1-2, wherein the radiation curable oligomer is a urethane (meth) acrylate oligomer.
  3. 4
Composition according to any one of claims 1-3, wherein the reactive diluent has a molecular weight of not more than 550, or a viscosity at room temperature of not more than 300 mPa.s
  4. 5
Composition according to any one of claims 1-4, wherein the reactive diluent has an acrylate, vinylether, N-vinyl or acrylamide functionality.
  5. 6
Composition according to any one of claims 1-5, wherein the reactive diluent comprises a monomer or monomers having an acrylate or vinyl ether functionality and an C 4 -C 20 alkyl or polyether moiety.
  6. 7
Composition according to any one of claims 1-6, wherein the photoinitiator (C) is present in an amount of 0.05-15 wt.%.
  7. 8
Composition according to any one of claims 1-7, wherein the groups represented by Ar 1 , Ar 2 and Ar 3 are independently chosen from the group consisting of a phenyl group, methylphenyl group, ethylphenyl group, dimethylphenyl group, trimethylphenyl group, isopropylphenyl group, tert-butyl phenyl group, methoxy phenyl group, dimethoxy phenyl group, ethoxy phenyl group, diethoxy phenyl group, iso-propoxy phenyl group, thiomethoxy phenyl group, naphthyl group, thiophenyl group, and pyridyl groupage
  8. 10
Composition according to any one of claims 1-9, wherein the composition jointly comprises at least one photoinitiator other than the photoinitiator according to formula 1.
  9. 11
A liquid curable optical fiber coating composition according to any one of claims 1-10, wherein the ratio of gel content (G 10 /G 100 ) as measured with methylethylketone extraction is 0.9 or higher wherein G 100 represents the gel content of a coating cured at 100 mJ/cm 2 , and G 10 represents the gel content of a coating cured at 10 mJ/cm 2 .
  10. 14
A radiation-curable liquid optical fiber coating composition comprising (a) 40-95% by weight of a polyurethane containing a polyoxyalkylene structure comprising at least one oxyalkylene group having 2-10 carbon atoms and an ethylenically unsaturated group, (b) 3-50% by weight of a mono-functional (meth)acrylate of which the homopolymer has a glass transition temperature of 20°C or less, and (c) 0.05-10% by weight of a photo-initiator which is a compound having a chemical structure with the following formula (1), wherein Ar 1 to Ar 3 independently represent a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic group.
  11. 15
Inner primary coating composition for optical glass fiber being a composition according to any one of claims 1-14.
  12. 16
Outer primary coating or ink composition for optical glass fiber being a composition according to any one of claims 1-14.
  13. 17
Matrix material or bundling material being a composition according to any one of claims 1-14.
  14. 21
Use of the radiation curable composition according to any one of claims 1-14 as a coating for optical glass fiber.
