The present invention relates to cosmetic and dermatological preparations, in particular those of the water-in-oil type, to processes for their preparation and to their use for cosmetic and medical purposes.
Human skin, as the largest human organ, performs many vital functions. With an average of about 2 m2 Surface in adults plays a prominent role as a protective and sensory organ. The task of this organ is to mediate and ward off mechanical, thermal, actinic, chemical and biological stimuli. In addition, it plays an important role as regulatory and target organ in human metabolism.
Cosmetic skincare is primarily understood to strengthen or restore the natural function of the skin as a barrier against environmental influences (eg dirt, chemicals, microorganisms) and against the loss of endogenous substances (eg water, natural fats, electrolytes) and their horny layer to assist in the event of damage occurring in their natural regeneration capacity.
If the barrier properties of the skin are disturbed, increased absorption of toxic or allergenic substances or infestation of microorganisms and, as a consequence, toxic or allergic skin reactions may occur.
The aim of skin care is also to compensate for the daily loss of fat and water loss of the skin. This is especially important when the natural regeneration capacity is insufficient. In addition, skin care products to protect against environmental influences, especially from the sun and wind, and delay the aging of the skin.
Medical topical compositions typically contain one or more drugs in effective concentration. For the sake of simplicity, reference is made to the clear distinction between cosmetic and medical use and corresponding products to the statutory provisions of the Federal Republic of Germany (eg Cosmetics Regulation, Food and Medicines Act).
Emulsions are generally understood to mean heterogeneous systems which consist of two liquids that are immiscible or only slightly miscible with one another, which are usually referred to as phases. In an emulsion, one of the two liquids is dispersed in the form of very fine droplets in the other liquid.
If the two liquids are water and oil and oil droplets are finely distributed in water, then it is an oil-in-water emulsion (O / W emulsion, eg milk). The basic character of a Q / W emulsion is characterized by the water. A water-in-oil emulsion (W / O emulsion, eg butter) is the reverse principle, with the basic character being determined by the oil.
Of course, a variety of ways are known in the art to formulate stable W / O preparations for cosmetic or dermatological use, for example in the form of creams and ointments spreadable in the range of room to skin temperature, or as lotions and milk, the are more fluid in this temperature range.
An object of the present invention was to provide preparations which can be formulated with a high or very high content of water-soluble and / or water-miscible substances without impairing the galenic quality or other properties of the preparations.
When <img file="EP0965331A2_D0001.tif" />High Internal Phase Emulsions "according to KJ Lissant: <i>The Geometry of High-Internal-Phase-Ratio Emulsions;</i> Journal of Colloid and Interface Science <b>22</b>, 462-468 (1966) defines emulsions having an internal phase of> 70%. Due to the very high water content of the emulsions <img file="EP0965331A2_D0004.tif" />"these break down on the skin particularly quickly - sensory unpleasant - in their main components (hydrophilic and lipophilic components) .Also, the lipophilic components separate into their individual components so that the lipids on the skin from each other - sensory unpleasant - <img file="EP0965331A2_D0005.tif" />abglitschen ".
The technique of varying the phase-to-volume ratio (ie, incorporating higher levels of liquid lipids) commonly used in water-in-oil emulsions may be due to the low lipid content <img file="EP0965331A2_D0006.tif" />High internal phase "-W / O emulsions only conditionally, at <img file="EP0965331A2_D0007.tif" />Very high internal phase "w / o emulsions) are not used at all
Surprisingly, it has been found that water-in-oil emulsions<ul id="ul0001" list-style="none" compact="compact"><li>(A) a content of water and optionally water-soluble substances of a total of at least 85 wt .-%, based on the total weight of the preparations and a content of lipids, emulsifiers and lipophilic constituents of a total of at most 15 wt .-%.</li><li>(b) containing at least one surfactant selected from the group of alkyl methicone copolyols and / or alkyl dimethicone copolyols,</li><li>(c) containing one or more lipid components comprising the lipid phase of the emulsion</li><li>(d) wherein the weight ratio of (b) to (c) is selected from the range 0.10 to 0.25,</li></ul> to remedy the disadvantages of the prior art.
