Electromagnetic shielding system for printed circuit board

Abstract

An electromagnetic shielding system for a printed circuit board includes a shielding enclosure having a plurality of side walls and an integral top surface, the top surface including a scored line for allowing removal of an interior portion of the top surface to thereby define a remaining perimeter rim, and a replacement cover for attachment to the remaining cover rim. The replacement cover includes a metal foil having an adhesive surface or a sheet metal material.

17 claims: 7 independent, 10 dependent

  1. 1
An electromagnetic shielding system for a printed circuit board comprising:a shielding enclosure including a plurality of side walls and an integral top surface, said top surface including a scored line for allowing removal of an interior portion of said top surface to thereby define a remaining perimeter rim;and a replacement cover for attachment to said remaining cover rim.
  2. 6
The shielding system of any preceding claim, wherein said replacement cover is made from a metal material.
  3. 8
The shielding system of any preceding claim, wherein said scored line is defined by a continuous scored line.
  4. 9
The shielding system of any preceding claim, wherein said scored line is disposed approximately 0.5 mm (0.02 in.) from an edge surface of said top surface.
  5. 10
The shielding system of any preceding claim, wherein said shielding enclosure is made from tin plated steel.
  6. 11
The shielding system of any preceding claim, wherein said scored line is severed for allowing removal of the interior portion of said top surface.
  7. 12
A method for shielding and obtaining access to a component on a printed circuit board, said method comprising:providing a printed circuit board having a component encompassed by a shielding enclosure including a plurality of side walls and an integral top surface having a scored line which defines an interior portion;severing the scored line on the top surface of the shielding cover;removing the interior portion of the top surface defined by the scored line, thereby leaving a remaining perimeter rim on the printed circuit board and allowing access to the component within the rim;providing a replacement cover for the top surface of the shielding enclosure;attaching the replacement cover to the shielding cover to thereby encompass and shield the component.
