Horizontal mountair gap presetting sensor bracket

Abstract

A sensor (10) bracket configured to provide a vertical displacement in response to a horizontal displacement. The bracket (10) has a general U-shape including an upper bracket section (30), a lower bracket section (28) and a middle bracket section (32) therebetween. The upper and lower bracket sections (30, 38) are provided with upper and lower sensor apertures (46,48), wherein the upper sensor aperture (46) is provided with serrations (45) which are spaced in close proximity to the sensor body (22), yet allow easy passage of the sensor body (22) therepast. Remote from the middle bracket section (32), the lower bracket section (28) is restrained by a bolt (24) and the upper bracket section (30) has a toothed slot (40), wherein the teeth (42) have a predetermined pitch angle. A washer (34) carried by the bolt (24) is inscribed by the teeth (42) as it is pressed into the slot (40) by the bolt (24), which, in turn, causes the upper bracket section (30) to be horizontally displaced so as to result in its bending. A pair of tabs (50, 52) cause squeezing of the upper bracket section (30) at the upper sensor aperture (46) when the upper bracket section (30) bends to thereby grab the sensor body (22) and vertically displace it as bending continues. Accordingly, by placing the sensor body (22) firstly against a reluctor (18), the horizontal displacement results in vertical displacement of the sensor body (22) equal to a predetermined air gap with respect to the reluctor (18).

16 claims: 3 independent, 13 dependent

  1. 1
A bracket (10) for automatically positioning a body (22), comprising:a bracket (22) having a general U-shape comprising a lower bracket section (28), an upper bracket section (30) and a middle bracket section (32) connecting with said upper and lower bracket sections (30, 28);first restraint means for restraining horizontal movement of said lower bracket section (28);displacement means for causing said upper bracket section (30) to be horizontally displaced a predetermined amount at a first location thereof remote from said middle bracket section (32);and grip means for selectively gripping a body (22) to said upper bracket section (30) at a second location between said middle bracket section (32) and said first location;wherein a bendable portion (30a) of said upper bracket section (30) is bendable away from said lower bracket section (28) responsive to said displacement means;and wherein when said bendable portion (30a) bends, said second location is vertically displaced.
  2. 10
A bracket (10) for automatically positioning a body (22), comprising:a bracket (10) having a general U-shape comprising a lower bracket section (28), an upper bracket section (30) having a bendable portion (30a) and a middle bracket section (32) connecting with said upper and lower bracket sections (30, 28), said upper bracket section having an upper aperture (46) at said bendable portion (30a), said upper aperture (46) having opposing first and second aperture sidewalls (46a, 46b), said first and second aperture sidewalls (46a, 46b) having serration means 45 for gripping a body 22;a first tab (50) connected to said lower bracket section (28), said first tab (50) being acutely angled over said upper bracket section (30) at said first aperture sidewall (46a);a second tab (52) connected to said lower bracket section (28), said second tab (52) being acutely angled over said upper bracket section (30) at said second aperture sidewall (46b);first restraint means for restraining horizontal movement of said lower bracket section (28);and displacement means for causing said upper bracket section (30) to be horizontally displaced a predetermined amount at a selected location thereof remote from said middle bracket section (32);and wherein said bendable portion (30a) of said upper bracket section (30) is bendable away from said lower bracket section (28) responsive to said displacement means;wherein when said bendable portion (30a) bends, said upper bracket section (30) is vertically displaced at said upper aperture (46);and wherein said first and second tabs (50, 52) squeeze said upper bracket section (30) at said upper aperture (46) when said bendable portion (30a) bends to thereby cause said serration means (45) to grip the body (22) and vertically displace the body (22).
  3. 15
A method for vertically displacing a body (22) in response to a predetermined horizontal displacement, said method comprising the steps of:forming a generally U-shaped bracket (10) comprising an upper bracket section (30), a lower bracket section (28) and a middle bracket section (32) connecting with said upper and lower bracket sections (30, 28);restraining horizontal movement of said lower bracket section (28);horizontally displacing said upper bracket section (30) toward said middle bracket section (32) at a selected location remote from said middle bracket section (32) to thereby cause said upper bracket section (30) to bend away from said lower bracket section (28) at a bendable portion (30a) thereof between said middle bracket section (32) and said selected location;and holding a body (22) to said bendable portion (30a) responsive to said bending to thereby cause the body (22) to be vertically displaced as said bendable portion (30a) bends.
