Transmission of name information via the public Euro-ISDN network

According to the present invention, there is provided a method and a telephone system for transmitting information regarding the names of subscribers associated with a sending system 1 and a receiving system 2, respectively. The transmission from the transmitting system 1 to the receiving system 2 takes place in accordance with the Euro-ISDN (DSS1) protocol via a public network 3, in which, according to the prior art, only the telephone number can be transmitted. According to the invention, the information concerning the names of subscribers of the transmission is transmitted in the information element SUBADDRESS of a message of the Euro-ISDN protocol, wherein in the information element SUBADDRESS an identifier is further inserted which indicates that in this information element SUBADDRESS a subscriber name information is transmitted.
