  1. 1
A video data editing apparatus for an optical disc having a storage area storing at least one file of video data split into a plurality of segments, the apparatus comprising a reading unit reading the segments from the optical disc via an optical pickup;a decoder (4) for decoding video data;a track buffer (3a) for inputting the segments from the optical pickup and outputting video data to the decoder, detection means for detecting a first segment, where the required length of consecutive storage area for the first segment is below a predetermined length, the first segment causing an underflow in the track buffer;and linking means for linking the detected first segment with at least part of a second segment, and, to make a total continuous length of the first segment and a linked part of the second segment at least equal to the predetermined length, moving at least one of the first segment and the linked part of the second segment to a different area on the optical disc, the second segment including video data that is reproduced immediately before or immediately after reproduction of video data in the first segment.
  2. 8
A recording medium storing a computer-readable editing program, the optical disc storing at least one file of video data split into a plurality of segments,    the at least one file being accessed by a reproduction apparatus comprising a reading unit for reading the segments from the optical disc via an optical pickup, a decoder for decoding video data, and a track buffer for inputting the segments from the optical pickup and outputting video data to the decoder, wherein the editing program is arranged to cause the computer to perform the following process:a detection step for detecting a first segment, the first segment causing an underflow in the track buffer;and a linking step for linking the detected first segment with at least one part of a second segment, and, to make a total continuous length of the first segment and a linked part of the second segment at least equal to the predetermined length, moving at least one of the first segment and the linked part of the second segment to a different area on the optical disc, the second segment including video data that is reproduced immediately before or immediately after reproduction of video data in the first segment.
