    An optical disc comprising a data area and a time map area, the data area storing one or more video objects (VOBs) and the time map area storing time map information (821, 822, 821b), each video object (VOB) including a plurality of video object units (VOBUs),    the time map information (821, 822, 821b) including a pair of a first time table (8220) and a second time table (8230) for each video object (VOB), with    each first time table (8220) including time maps (8211, 8212) provided for selected ones of the video object units in a corresponding video object, and each second time table (8230) including VOBU maps (8231, 8232) provided for the respective video object units in the corresponding video object, characterised in that    each of the time maps (8211, 8212) includes an address (8212c) of a corresponding one of the selected video object units and an indicator (8212a) for specifying a VOBU map (8231, 8232) of the corresponding one of the selected video object units, the addresses being arranged in order and indicating storage positions of the video object units that correspond to reproduction points that differ by a predetermined time unit (TMU), the predetermined time unit (TMU) being longer than a maximum reproduction period of a video object unit;and    each of the VOBU maps (8231, 8232) includes a reproduction time (8232b) of a corresponding video object unit and a data size (8232c) of the corresponding video object unit

    The optical disc of Claim 1, characterized in that each of the time maps (8211,8212) further includes difference information (8212b) indicating a difference (TIME DIFFERENCE) between a corresponding one of the reproduction points and a reproduction start time of the corresponding video object unit.

    The optical disc of Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the time map information (821, 822, 821b) further includes a time offset (TM_OFS) for each video object, each time offset (TM_OFS) indicating a difference between a first reproduction point during a reproduction of the corresponding video object and a start time of a first one of the video object units included in the corresponding video object.

    The optical disc of Claim 1, characterized in that the time map information (821, 822, 821b) further includes the number of the time maps (8211, 8212) in each first time table (8220) and the number of the VOBU maps (8231, 8232) included in each second time table (8230).

    A recording apparatus comprising:an input means (9) for receiving video data in a time series;a compression means (2) for compressing the received video data to generate a video object (VOB) which includes a sequence of video object units (VOBUs);a write means (3) for writing the video object (VOB) onto an optical disc;and a control means (1) for controlling the write means,    the control means (1) being arranged to generate a first time table (8220) and a second time table (8230) and controls the write means (3) to write the generated video object (VOB), the generated first time table (8220) and second time table (8230) onto the optical disc, characterised in that    each second time table (8230) includes VOBU maps (8231, 8232) respectively provided for video object units (VOBUs) in a corresponding video object (VOB), each of the VOBU maps (8231, 8232) including a reproduction period (8232b) and a data size (8232c) of a corresponding one of the video units (VOBUs) in the corresponding video object (VOB),    each first time table (8220) includes: time maps (8211, 8212) provided for selected ones of the video object units in a corresponding video object, and each of the time maps (8211, 8212) includes an address (8212c) of a corresponding one of the selected video object units and an indicator (8212a) for indicating a VOBU map (8231, 8232) of the corresponding and of the selected video object units (VOBUs) which respectively correspond to the reproduction points, the addresses being arranged in order and indicating storage positions of the video object units (VOBU) that correspond to reproduction points that differ by a predetermined time unit (TMU), the predetermined time unit (TMU) being longer than a maximum period of a video object unit (VOBU).

    A recording apparatus according to Claim 6, wherein the control means is arranged to generate each first time table with time maps (8211, 8212) for selected video object units that respectively correspond to reproduction points that differ by a predetermined time unit (TMU), the predetermined time unit (TMN) being longer than a maximum reproduction period of a video object unit.

    A recording apparatus according to Claim 7, characterised in that each time map (8211, 8212) includes:difference information (8212b) indicating a difference (TIME DIFFERENCE) between the corresponding reproduction point and a reproduction start time of the corresponding video object unit (VOBU).

    A recording apparatus according to Claim 6, 7 or 8, characterized in that the time map information (821, 822, 821b) further includes a time offset (TM_OFS) for each video object (VOB), each time offset (TM_OFS) indicating a difference between a first reproduction point during a reproduction of the corresponding video object (VOB) and a start time of a first video object unit (VOBU #1) in the corresponding video object (VOB).

    A recording apparatus according to any one of Claims 6 to 9, characterized in that the time map information (821, 822, 821b) further includes the number of the time maps (8211, 8212) in each first time table (8220) and the number of VOBU maps (8231, 8232) included in each second time table (8230).

    A recording apparatus according to any one of Claims 6 to 10, characterized in that each VOBU map (8231, 8232) of the second time table (8230) further includes a data size (8232a) of the first reference picture.

    A computer-readable recording medium storing a program to be read by a computer which receives video data in a time series, compresses the received video data to generate a video object (VOB) which includes a sequence of video object units (VOBUs), and writes the generated video object (VOB) onto an optical disc, the program instructing the computer to generate a first time table (8220) and a second time table (8230) for each video object and to write the generated first and second time tables (8220, 8230) onto the optical disc, wherein    each second time table (8230) includes VOBU maps (8231, 8232) respectively provided for video object units in a corresponding video object, each of the VOBU maps (8231, 8232) including a reproduction time (8232b) and a data size (8232c) of a corresponding one of the video object units in the corresponding video object,    each first time table (8220) includes:time maps (8211, 8212) provided for selected ones of the video object units in a corresponding video object, and each of the time maps (8211, 8212) includes an address of a corresponding one of the selected video object units, and an indicator (8212a) for indicating a VOBU map (8231, 8232) of the corresponding one of the selected video object units which respectively correspond to the reproduction points, the addresses being arranged in order and indicating storage positions of the video object units (VOBU) that correspond to reproduction points that differ by a predetermined time unit (TMU), the predetermined time limit (TMU) being larger than a maximum reproduction period of a video object unit.
