    A suspension for elastically supporting a head slider (80) having a head (82), comprising:a base portion (32) adapted to be mounted directly or indirectly to an arm driven by an actuator;a head slider mounting portion (31) adapted to support the head slider, said head slider mounting portion being formed on an end of said suspension (30) opposite to said base portion;and a tongue portion (35) formed along a side of said base portion (32);characterised in that : said tongue portion protrudes perpendicularly from said base portion (32);and a head IC chip mounting portion (65) is formed in said tongue portion (35), said head IC chip mounting portion (65) being adapted to support a head IC chip (90) connected to the head (82).

    A suspension (30B) for elastically supporting a head slider (80) having a head (82), said suspension being adapted to be connected to an interconnecting member (70B) connected to an arm (25) driven by an actuator, said suspension comprising:a mount portion (32B) adapted to be mounted to the interconnecting member (70B);a head slider mounting portion (31B) adapted to support the head slider (80), said head slider mounting portion (31B) being formed on an end of said suspension (30B) opposite to said mount portion (32B);a first tongue portion (151) formed along one side of said mount portion (32B);and a first wiring pattern (42B, 43B, 44B, 45N) extending from said head slider mounting portion (31B) to said first tongue portion (151);characterised in that : said first tongue portion (151) protrudes from said mount portion (32B) in a direction perpendicular to a surface of said mount portion;a second tongue portion (152) is formed along another side of said mount portion (32B), said second tongue portion (152) protruding from said mount portion (32B) in the same direction as said first tongue portion (151);a second wiring pattern (61B, 62B, 63B, 64B) extends across said mount portion (32B) from said first tongue portion (151) to said second tongue portion (152);a head IC chip mounting portion (65B) is formed in said first tongue portion (151) said head IC chip mounting portion (65B) being adapted to support a head IC chip (90) connected to the head (82);and a connecting portion (66B) is formed in said second tongue portion (152), said connecting portion being adapted to be electrically connected to an external device.
