  1. 1
A reader and/or writer apparatus (1) comprising a spirally-shaped or coil-shaped antenna (101b) for generating an electromagnetic field to supply operational power to an IC card (2) and a conductor plate (101c) disposed to face said antenna (101b), wherein said antenna (101b) is formed in a plane parallel to and spaced (d) from a rectangular-shaped surface of said conductor plate (101c) and is positioned within the rectangular-shaped surface of said conductor plate (101c), and an outer-most element of said antenna (101b) defines either a circle having a diameter of "a" (meter) or a square having a side length of "a" (meter), each side of said square being extended along one of the sides of said rectangular-shaped surface of said conductor plate (101c), characterized in that said antenna (101b) and said conductor plate (101c) are disposed so that in a position where the distance between an outermost element of the antenna (101b) and an edge of the conductor plate (101c) is minimum the result of the equation a · tan φ is 0.2 meter or less, where the parameter θ is an angle formed between the conductor plate and the line which connects the outermost element of the antenna (101b) with the edge of the conductor plate (101c) in said position.
  2. 4
The reader and/or writer apparatus (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by comprising a power supply (105) for generating a signal for power feeding, an encoding circuit (107) for encoding inputted transmit data, a modulator (108) for amplitude-modulating the signal obtained from the power supply (105) with a signal obtained from the encoding circuit (107), so that the signal obtained from the encoding circuit (107) is superimposed on the signal obtained from the power supply (105), and a power feeding circuit (109, 103, 102) for feeding power to the antenna (101b) on the basis of a signal obtained from the modulator (108).
  3. 5
The reader and/or writer apparatus (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said conductor plate (101c) includes a conductor member which suppresses an electric field intensity at a position at least 3 meters distant from said antenna (101b).
  4. 6
A power feeding system for feeding power, using electromagnetic waves, from a reader and/or writer apparatus (1) to an IC card (2) for converting in the IC card (2) the fed power to a DC voltage, and for supplying said DC voltage to an internal circuit of the IC card (2), wherein the reader and/or writer apparatus (1) includes a spirally-shaped or coil-shaped antenna (101b) for generating an electromagnetic field to supply operational power to the IC card (2) and a conductor plate (101c) disposed to face said antenna (101b), said antenna (101b) is formed in a plane parallel to and spaced (d) from a rectangular-shaped surface of said conductor plate (101c) and is positioned within the surface of said conductor plate (101c), and an outermost element of said antenna (101b) defines either a circle having a diameter of "a" (meter) or a square having a side length of "a" (meter), each side of said square being extended along one of the sides of said rectangular-shaped surface of said conductor plate (101c) characterized in that said antenna (101b) and said conductor plate (101c) are disposed so that in a position where the distance between an outermost element of the antenna (101b) and an edge of the conductor plate (101c) is minimum, the result of the equation a · tan θ is 0.2 meter or less, where the parameter θ is an angle formed between the conductor plate and the line which connects the outermost element of the antenna (101b) with the edge of the conductor plate (101c) in said position.
  5. 9
A communication system having a power feeding system as described in claim 6, wherein said antenna (101b) is also an antenna for generating an electromagnetic field to perform transmission and/or reception of signals for communication.
