Map display controlling method and apparatus

A display of map information by a display device (13) in a navigation apparatus (S) for displaying the map information together with a plurality of mark informations (50) is controlled by the map display controlling method. Each of the map informations is located at a specific point indicated by the map information and indicates an existence of related information in relation to the specific point respectively. The map display controlling method includes: a judging process of judging whether or not the mark information is located within a display range of the map information displayed by the display device each time a command, which instructs the display device to indicate the mark information on the map information by a cursor (80) one by one in an order starting from the mark information located closer to a desired position to that located farther from the desired position within the display range, is inputted; and a cursor display controlling process of controlling the display device to display the cursor together with the map information and the mark information such that the cursor indicates the mark information on the map information, if it is judged by the judging process that the mark information is located within the display range, and to display the cursor together with the map information and the mark information such that the cursor indicates the mark information on the map information by reducing a contraction scale of the map information to be displayed so as to display the mark information within the display range, if it is judged by the judging process that the mark information is not located within the display range.
