Optical coupler

Abstract

Arrayed semiconductor laser elements and optical waveguide cores are formed on a substrate opposite to each other, with a pitch being ±2 times coupling tolerance respectively, by using different thickness of organic and inorganic layers formed on the substrate and changing refractive indices of a main and a sub core and a cladding layer of the waveguide and a cross section and shape of the main and the sub core, partially along the waveguide.

  1. 1
An optical coupling structure comprising:a first optical component comprising first optical elements arranged with a first pitch;and a second optical component optically coupled with said first optical component, comprising second optical elements arranged with a second pitch.
  2. 18
An optical coupling structure comprising:an optical waveguide having a core of high refractive index surrounded by a lower-index cladding layer and at least a couple of ends for coupling optical components;and said optical waveguide having function to change an optical beam width of guided mode of said optical beam traveling from one end to another end of said waveguide.
  3. 19
An optical coupling structure comprising:an optical waveguide having a core of high refractive index surrounded by a lower-index cladding layer and at least a couple of ends for coupling optical components;and said optical waveguide having function to change a confinement factor of an optical beam of guided mode of said waveguide while said optical beam travels from one end to another end of said waveguide.
