  1. 1
A data storage device (40) comprising:a first movable member (70) movably mounted in the data storage device (40), said first movable member (70) being biased in a first direction with a first biasing force (90);a second movable member (72) movably mounted in the data storage device (40), said second movable member (72) being biased in said first direction with a second biasing force (92);and a single electro-mechanical device (74, 76) having a drive shaft (76) that moves from a first position to a second position in response to a current applied thereto, the drive shaft (76) having an operating end (76a) that engages said first and second movable members (70, 72) and that moves both of said members against the respective first and second biasing forces (90, 92) as the drive shaft (76) moves from said first position to said second position, said operating end (76a) engaging said second member (72) and moving said second member (72) a predetermined distance to an intermediate position of said drive shaft (76) before engaging said first member (70), characterized in that said electro-mechanical device (74, 76) being responsive to a first current sufficient to move the drive shaft (76) against said second biasing force (92) but insufficient to move the drive shaft (76) against a combination of the first and second biasing forces (90, 92), and being responsive to a second current, greater than the first current, sufficient to move the drive shaft (76) against the combination of the first and second biasing forces (90, 92), whereby the first and second currents can be selectively applied to said electro-mechanical device (74, 76) to move said drive shaft (76) between said first, intermediate and second positions to thereby move said second member (72) independently of said first member (70).
  2. 2
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 1 further comprising:a first spring (90) coupled to said first movable member (70) for biasing said first movable member (70) in the first direction;a second spring (92) coupled to said second movable member (90) for biasing said second movable member in said first direction;said electro-mechanical device (74, 76) being responsive to a first current sufficient to move the drive shaft (76) against the biasing force of said second spring (92) but insufficient to move the drive shaft (76) against the combined biasing forces of the first and second springs (90, 92), and being responsive to a second current, greater than the first current, sufficient to move the drive shaft (76) against the combined forces of the first and second springs (90, 92).
  3. 3
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 1 or 2 wherein said first movable member (70) and said second movable member (72) each have a respective projection formed thereon, and wherein the respective projections (70c, 72c) are disposed relative to the operating end (76a) of the drive shaft (76) such that, during movement of the drive shaft (76) from said first position to said second position, the drive shaft (76) engages the projection (72c) on the second movable member and moves the second movable member (72) said predetermined distance to said intermediate position of the drive shaft (76) prior to engaging the first movable member (70).
  4. 4
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 3 wherein a portion of the drive shaft (76) of the electro-mechanical device (74, 76) is cut-away to form a channel (76b) in which the projections (70c, 72c) on the first and second movable members can move independently of the operating end (76a) of the drive shaft (76).
  5. 8
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 7 wherein the eject latch lever (70) has a cutout (70a) formed therein that engages with a latch projection (78) fixedly disposed on a housing of the data storage device (40) in order to latch said eject member (53) in said rearward position, said eject latch lever (70) being operable to move out of engagement with said latch projection (78) to release said eject member (53).
  6. 9
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 7 wherein the eject latch lever (70) is self-latching.
  7. 10
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 7 wherein the head locking lever (72) is self-engaging.
  8. 11
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 7 further comprising a movable platform (50), said eject member (53) being formed as part of said movable platform (50).
  9. 12
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 11 wherein said actuator (62), said eject latch lever (70) and said head locking lever (72) are each movably mounted on said platform.
  10. 13
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 12 wherein said eject latch lever (70) and said head locking lever (72) are each pivotally mounted on said platform.
  11. 14
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 1, 2 or 7 wherein said single electro-mechanical device (74, 76) comprises a single solenoid (74) having said drive shaft (76) with said operating end (76a).
  12. 15
The data storage device (40) recited in claim 2 wherein the biasing force of the first spring (90) is stronger than the biasing force of the second spring (92).
  13. 16
