  1. 1
A diesel engine using a low evaporativity fuel comprising:a cylinder head (7) fixed on a cylinder block (14) constituting a cylinder (8), a combustion chamber structure (3) forming a heat insulating primary chamber (1) provided in a cavity (9) formed in said cylinder head (7), valves (21) adapted to open and close ports (22, 25) formed in said cylinder head (7), a fuel injection nozzle (6) provided in said cylinder head (7), and a piston (5) adapted to be moved reciprocatingly in said cylinder (8), forming a heat insulating swirl chamber (2) therein and provided with communication ports (15) through which said primary chamber (1) and said swirl chamber (2) communicate with each other,    characterised in that: the fuel injection nozzle (6) is adapted to inject a low evaporativity fuel into said cylinder (8), a glow plug (4) is provided in said cylinder head (7), the piston (5) is provided with a plug insert bore (10) through which said glow plug (4) is thrusted into said swirl chamber (2) when said piston is in the vicinity of a top dead center;and in that it further comprises: a controller (20) adapted to control the injection of said low evaporativity fuel from said fuel injection nozzle (6) into said primary chamber (1) in the first half of a compression stroke and the injection of a part of said fuel into said swirl chamber (2) at an end of the compression stroke in which said glow plug (4) is thrusted into said swirl chamber (2) through said plug insert bore (10), whereby the fuel is ignited and burnt in said swirl chamber (2).
  2. 6
A diesel engine using a low evaporativity fuel comprising a cylinder head (47) fixed on a cylinder block (54) constituting a cylinder (48), a combustion chamber structure (43) forming a heat insulating primary chamber (41) provided in a cavity (49) formed in said cylinder head (47), valves (61) adapted to open and close ports (62, 65) formed in said cylinder head (47), a piston (45) moved reciprocatingly in said cylinder (48) and provided therein with a swirl chamber (42) of a heat insulating structure, communication ports (55) communicating said primary chamber (41) and said swirl chamber (42) with each other and formed in said piston (45) in a circumferentially spaced manner, a fuel injection port (53) formed in the substantially central portion of said piston (45), and a fuel injection nozzle (46) provided in said cylinder head (47),    characterised in that:the cross-sectional area of said fuel injection port (53) decreases gradually from a top surface (58) of said piston toward said swirl chamber (42), and the fuel injection nozzle (46) is adapted to inject the low evaporativity fuel in a diffused state into said cylinder (48) in the first half of a compression stroke and an ignition low evaporativity fuel into said swirl chamber (42) through said fuel injection port (53) in the second half of said compression stroke.
