  1. 1
An ink-jet printing apparatus for printing an image on a printing medium using ink, comprising:a mount portion (2) on which replaceable first and second ink-jet print heads can be mounted, said first ink-jet print head discharging a first ink having a first density and said second ink-jet print head discharging a second ink having a second density lower than said first ink and a color similar to said first ink;characterised by print control means (301,301a) for performing a print operation by controlling at least one of an upper limit of an amount of ink, ejected per unit area and an upper limit of an amount of ink ejected per unit time, in accordance with a type of said print head mounted on said mount portion, wherein said print control means controls the upper limit of the ejected amount of ink so that the upper limit of the ejected amount of the second ink is larger than the upper limit of the ejected amount of the first ink.
  2. 15
An ink-jet printing method of printing an image by discharging an ink from a print head onto a printing medium, comprising the steps of:determining whether a first ink-jet print head discharging a first ink having a first density or a second ink-jet print head discharging a second ink having a second density lower than the first density and a color similar to the first ink is mounted;characterised by performing a print operation (S135) by controlling at least one of an upper limit of an amount of ink ejected per unit area and an upper limit of an amount of ink ejected per unit time, in accordance with the density of ink in said determined print head, controlling the upper limit of the ejected amount of ink so that the upper limit of the ejected amount of the second ink is larger than the upper limit of the ejected amount of the first ink.
