Image segmentation method

Abstract

In a method for segmenting images of an image signal, wherein within a picture a decomposition of the image is made in regions in which adjacent pixels are combined, for the purposes of object-oriented image coding for the highest possible data reduction, in particular the color values, provided that for the formation of regions, the chrominance values of the pixels are used so that those neighboring pixels of an image are combined to form a contiguous region having similar chrominance values, and a common chromaticity value is provided for the pixels of a region.
