8 claims: 5 independent, 3 dependent

  1. 1
A recording medium on which data are recorded as a sector, the sector being composed exclusively of a plurality of frames, each of the plurality of frames being of an identical bit length, the recording medium comprising:a synchronous pattern (23, 41, 24, 42) disposed within a first portion of each of said frames, the synchronous pattern representing a frame synchronization;and a signal pattern (25) disposed within the first frame of the sector and adjacent to the synchronous pattern, the signal pattern representing a delimitation of the sector, wherein the synchronous pattern does not exist in a predetermined modulation rule, and identification data are disposed at a predetermined position with regard to the signal pattern.
  2. 2
A recording apparatus for recording a signal on a recording medium as a sector, the sector being composed exclusively of a plurality of frames, each of the plurality of frames being of an identical bit length, the recording apparatus comprising:means (67) for generating a synchronous pattern, a signal pattern and identification data, the synchronous pattern representing a frame synchronization, the signal pattern representing a delimitation of the sector and a reference to the identification data, wherein the synchronous pattern does not exist in a predetermined modulation rule;and means (66) for forming data as a sector on the recording medium so that the synchronous pattern is disposed within a first portion of each of said frames and the signal pattern is disposed within the first frame of the sector and adjacent to the synchronous pattern.
  3. 3
A reproducing apparatus for reproducing a signal from a recording medium on which data are recorded as a sector, the sector being composed exclusively of a plurality of frames, each of the plurality of frames being of an identical bit length, the recording medium comprising a synchronous pattern and identification data disposed within a first portion of each of said frames, the synchronous pattern representing a frame synchronization, and a signal pattern disposed within the first frame of the sector and adjacent to the synchronous pattern, the signal pattern representing a delimitation of the sector, wherein the synchronous pattern does not exist in a predetermined modulation rule,    the reproducing apparatus comprising:means (71, 73, 76) for reading out data recorded on the recording medium;means (71) for extracting the synchronous pattern from the read out data;means (73, 76) for extracting the signal pattern from the read out data and using the signal pattern for improving the detection of the identification data;and means for deriving the periodicity of frames on the basis of the extracted synchronous pattern.
  4. 7
A recording medium having a recording area divided into sectors, each of which is composed exclusively of a plurality of frames, each of the frames containing a first synchronous pattern representing a synchronization of the frames, at least one of the frames being a header frame comprising a second synchronous pattern for representing a synchronization of the sectors, the first synchronous pattern not existing in a predetermined modulation rule, the second synchronous pattern being disposed within a predetermined position with regard to the identification data,    whereby several of said frames including said header frame form a header portion (21) including identification data (ID) and error correction code words for correcting data including said identification data;each of the plurality of frames is of an identical bit length;and the error correction code words exclude the first synchronous pattern and the second synchronous pattern.
  5. 8
A reproducing apparatus for reproducing a signal from a recording medium having a recording area divided into sectors, each of which is composed exclusively of a plurality of frames, each of the plurality of frames being of an identical bit length, each of the frames containing a first synchronous pattern representing a synchronization of the frames, at least one of the frames being a header frame comprising a second synchronous pattern for representing a synchronization of the sectors, several of said frames in which said header frame is included forming a header portion , said header portion comprising identification data (ID) and error correction code words for correcting data including said identification data,    the reproducing apparatus comprising:means (71-75) for receiving signals including the first and the second synchronous patterns and the error correction code words;means (76) for demodulating the received signals;means (72) for deriving the periodicity of frames on the basis of the first synchronous pattern;means (74) for deriving the periodicity of sectors on the basis of the second synchronous pattern;and means for enhancing a precision of cognizing said identification data by said error correction code words correcting the identification data.
