Low power, short range point-to-multipoint communications system

Abstract

A point-to-multipoint or two-way communications system is provided by a nodal transmitter located in a node with a plurality of nodal antennas radiating different polarization signals about the node. The system includes subscriber stations with directional antennas adapted to receive signals radiated from the nodal transmitter. The system may additionally include capability for transmitting and radiating subscriber signals to the nodal transmitter location for two-way communications.

21 claims: 2 independent, 19 dependent

  1. 1
A communications system comprising:a plurality of first antennas each adapted to radiate a band of communication signals into predetermined subsectors within the nodal area, said first antennas being adapted such that the polarization of frequency of the signals radiated into said subsectors of the adjacent subsectors of the nodal area are different;transceiver means for generating a set of carrier frequencies within said band for each of said plurality of first antennas, means including a time division multiplexer for modulating said carrier frequencies with time division multiplex signals to transmit time division multiplex to a sector of the nodal areas;and a plurality of subscriber stations each having a second antenna polarized to receive the communication signals from an associated one of the first antennas.
  2. 7
A short range, wireless ,point to multipoint transmission system for transmitting over a given frquency band comprising :a plurality of contiguous sub-frequency band broadcast transmiters providing transmission of signals over said given frequency band with each of said broadcast transmitters transmitting signals at a different contiguous sub-frequency band ;a plurality of sub-frequency band antennas at one location and each of said sub-frequency band antenna coupled to one of said sub-frequency band transmitters for separately broadcasting said signals at said sub-frequency bands to thereby broadcast signals over said given frequency band ;and a plurality of receiver stations for receiving said signals over said given frequency band.
