Recording head driving device

Abstract

Disclosed herein is a recording head driving device for a thermal printer comprising heating elements (7) energizable over a time interval, for driving a number of recording heads such as thermal heads (6, 7) or the like for printing characters on recording media. A control signal for controlling the time required to energize each of the recording heads (6, 7) is input to recording head driving gate circuits (5) from NAND gates (5) in accordance with the present and/or past recorded information output from a latch circuit (8). A plurality of collating circuits (10) is provided each of which allows each of the latch circuits (8) to retain or hold recorded information on at least past three lines as the previous recorded information and feeds back the past latch outputs (Q6, Q7, Q8) of the latch circuit (8) to any one (Q3) of the outputs of the latch circuit (8).

  1. 1
A recording head driving device for a thermal printer corn-prising heating elements (7) energizable over a time interval, which heating elements (7) are arranged in a line, characterized by comprising:- a number of latch circuits (8) each used to retain information on the present line and information on previous lines, both of which are recorded with respect to dots serving to be activated for recording heads;- a number of gate circuits (4, 5) for outputting pulse signals indicative of energizable states of heating resistors (7) associated with the dots serving as the objects to be activated for the recording heads on the basis of output patterns of the latch circuits (8), respectively;- a gate signal generating unit (9) for generating gate signals used to produce the pulse signals indicative of the energizable states of the heating resistors (7) based on the output patterns of the latch circuits (8), respectively, and for supplying the generated gate signals to the gate circuits (4, 5), respectively;- a number of drive circuits (6) for driving the heating resistors (7) in response to the pulse signals output from the gate circuits (4, 5), respectively;and - a number of collating circuits (10) each activated to allow the latch circuit (8) to retain the recorded information on at least the past three lines as the recorded information on the previous lines and to feed back the past latch outputs of the latch circuit (8) to any one of the outputs of the latch circuit (8).
