Map display apparatus

Abstract

A navigation apparatus for displaying most appropriately information such as character strings, routes, etc., when a map is displayed by bird's-eye view display. The navigation apparatus includes a portion (1) for calculating the present position on the basis of information from sensors (S5-S8), a portion for executing perspective conversion operation for displaying a map by bird's-eye view display, a portion for disposing the present position or the present position and a position representing a destination at the most suitable positions, a portion for controlling so that overlap of character strings can be eliminated, a portion for controlling the same character strings, a portion for displaying most appropriately a background such as lines and planes, a portion (70) for controlling marks to be displayed, and a portion (71) for executing graphic plotting by using the resulting map data.

    A map display apparatus comprising:memory means (3) for storing map data necessary for plotting a map of a predetermined region;character data selection means (84) for selecting a character string having a predetermined attribute from character data read out from said memory means (3);character data display means for executing perspective conversion of the character data selected by said character selection means (84) and displaying it by bird's-eye view display;and vector data display means (65) for executing perspective conversion for vector data read out from said memory means (3) and displaying it by bird's-eye view display.

    A map display apparatus according to any of claims 2 through 4, wherein said character overlap judgement means (1102) judges overlap between character strings by using a rectangular region information circumscribed with the character strings.

    A map display apparatus according to any of claims 2 through 4, wherein said character overlap judgement means (1102) judges overlap between character strings by using a rectangular region information of a rectangle situated more inward by a predetermined distance from a rectangle circumscribed with the character strings.

    A map display apparatus according to any of claims 2 through 4, wherein said character overlap judgement means (1102) judges overlap by using a polygonal region information of a polygon situated more inward by a predetermined distance from a polygon encompassing the character strings.

    A map display apparatus comprising:memory means (3) for storing map data necessary for plotting a map of a predetermined region;same character string selection means (1107) for selecting the same character strings from character data read out from said memory means (3);character data selection means (1064) for selecting a predetermined character string from the same character string selected by said same character string selection means (1107);character data display means (1007) for executing perspective conversion for the character string selected by said character data selection means and displaying it by bird's-eye view display;and vector data display means for executing perspective conversion for vector data read out from said memory means (1007) and displaying it by bird's-eye view display.

    A map display apparatus comprising:memory means (3) for storing map data necessary for plotting a map of a predetermined region;map display means (65) for displaying a bird's-eye view map by using map data read out from said memory means (3);route calculation means (62) for selecting an optimum road connecting the present position to a destination;and vector data display means (1007) for executing perspective conversion for the route calculated by said route calculation means and displaying it in superposition with a bird's-eye view map.

    A map display apparatus comprising:memory means (3) for storing map data necessary for plotting a map of a predetermined region;map display means (65) for displaying a bird's-eye view map by using map data read out from said memory means;driving orbit memory means (65) for storing a driving orbit of own car;and driving orbit display means (71) for executing perspective conversion of a plurality of routes stored in said driving orbit memory means and displaying them in such a manner that the gaps between orbit dot strings become equidistant when said routes are displayed by bird's-eye view display.

    A map display apparatus comprising:memory means (3) for storing map data necessary for plotting a map of a predetermined region;background data display means (86) for executing perspective conversion of each apex when a pattern exists in the background data read out from said memory means (3), and displaying the background data by using a pattern used for a plan view map display;and character data display means (65) for executing perspective conversion for the character data read out from said memory means and displaying it by bird's-eye view display.

    A map display apparatus comprising:memory means (3) for storing map data necessary for plotting a map of a predetermined region;map display means (65) for displaying a bird's-eye view map by using the map data read out from said memory means;display region limiting means (81) for limiting regions for bird's-eye view display to those regions existing on the foreground side from a disappearing point of perspective conversion;background display means (86) for displaying an artificial background such as a horizontal line and sky in the regions for which map display is limited by said display region limiting means;and background region control means (86) for changing colors and patterns of the artificial background regions displayed by said background display means.

    A map display apparatus comprising:memory means (3) for storing map data necessary for plotting a map of a predetermined region;map display means (65) for displaying a bird's-eye view map and a plan view map by using the map data read out from said memory means;mark selection means (70) for selecting a mark to be displayed in superposition with the bird's-eye view map or the plan view map;and mark display means (71) for displaying the mark in superposition with the bird's-eye view map and the plan view map.

    A map display apparatus comprising:memory means (3) for storing map data necessary for display a map of a predetermined region;destination inputting means (5) for setting a destination;coefficient decision means (61) for deciding the position of a visual point and a projection angle so that a destination can be displayed in a predetermined direction of a display screen;and map display means (65) for executing perspective conversion of the map data read out from said memory means and the position of the visual point as well as the projection angle obtained by said coefficient decision means, and displaying a bird's-eye view map.

    A map display apparatus comprising:memory means (3) for storing map data necessary for displaying a map of a predetermined region;present position detection means (S5-S8) for detecting a predetermined position of a car;present position display position setting means (81) for deciding a screen display position of the present position obtained by said present position detection means (S5-S8);coefficient decision means (61) for deciding the position of a visual point and a projection angle so that the present position is displayed by bird's-eye view display at the screen display position set by said present position display position setting means;and map display means (65) for executing perspective conversion of the map data read out from said memory means by the position of the visual point and the projection angle obtained by said coefficient decision means, and displaying a bird's-eye view map.

    A graphic display apparatus comprising:character kind judgement means (1201) for judging whether or not one symbol or one character should be represented by a plurality of characters;first character plotting means (1205, 1206) for plotting a character by a typeface not having decoration when said character kind judgement means judges that one symbol or one character should be represented by a plurality of characters;and second character plotting means (1208, 1209) for plotting a character with decoration when said character kind judgement means judges that one symbol or one character should be represented by a plurality of characters.

    A graphic display apparatus comprising:character overlap judgement means (1203) for judging whether or not overlap of characters occurs between a plurality of characters;first character plotting means (1205, 1206) for plotting a character by a typeface not having decoration;and second character plotting means (1208, 1209) for plotting a character by a typeface having decoration when overlap of characters is not judged as occurring by said character overlap judgement means.
