  1. 1
An intravascular multi-anchor stent (10, 110, 130) for implanting in a body lumen comprising    a plurality of cylindrical elements (12, 112, 132) which are substantially independently expandable in the radial direction and which are interconnected so as to be generally aligned on a common longitudinal axis (A), each of the plurality of cylindrical elements (12, 112, 132) comprising a pattern having a series of alternating curved peaks (16) and curved valleys (18), the degrees of curvature along adjacent peaks (16) and valleys (18) of each pair of adjacent peaks and valleys being different;and    a plurality of connecting elements (14, 134) for interconnecting the cylindrical elements (12, 112, 132), the connecting elements (14, 134) being in alignment with the common longitudinal axis (A) and configured to interconnect only those cylindrical elements (12, 122, 132) that are adjacent to each other so that the stent (10, 110, 130), when expanded in the radial direction, retains its overall length without appreciable shortening,    all of the cylindrical elements (12, 112, 132) of which the stent (10, 110, 130) is comprised having at least one barb (20, 120, 140, 142) disposed on an outwardly facing arch of the valleys (18), the plurality of barbs (20, 120, 140, 142) facing partially radially outwardly when the multi-anchor stent (10, 110, 130) is in an expanded configuration to attach the stent (10, 110, 130) to the body lumen.
  2. 4
The intravascular multi-anchor stent (10, 110, 130) of any preceding claim, wherein each of the plurality of barbs (20, 120, 140, 142) faces in substantially the same direction when the stent (10, 110, 130) is in the expanded configuration to provide a directional gripping action.
  3. 5
The intravascular multi-anchor stent (10, 110, 130) of any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the barbs (20, 120, 140, 142) of at least one of the cylindrical elements (12, 112, 132) at one longitudinal end of the stent (10, 110, 130) face in a first direction, and the barbs (20, 120, 140, 142) of at least one of the cylindrical elements (12, 112, 132) at an opposing longitudinal end of the stent (10, 110, 130) face in an opposing direction when the stent (10, 110, 130) is in the expanded configuration.
