  1. 1
An absorbent article comprising a liquid pervious topsheet, a liquid impervious backsheet joined to said topsheet; an absorbent core positioned between said topsheet and said backsheet, and an acquisition layer positioned between said topsheet and said absorbent core,    said absorbent core comprising at least one resilient web of meltblown fibers, wherein said web of meltblown fibers is comprised of a plurality of micro-denier meltblown fibers having a denier per fibre of less than 1, said meltblown fibres having pores therebetween having a first average wet pore radius size under no load; and    said acquisition layer having pores therein having a second average wet pore radius size under no load, wherein said second average wet pore radius size is greater than said first average wet pore radius size,    said absorbent article characterized in that :said web of meltblown fibers comprised in said absorbent core has a first average wet pore radius size of between 20-40 microns, preferably between 30-40 microns, under an 18 gram/cm 2 load, a basis weight between 44-162 grams/m 2 , and an overall pore size distribution such that 90% of the pores in the web have wet pore radii between 7-70 microns, preferably between 7-50 microns, and said acquisition layer has a second average wet pore radius size of between 40-140 microns under an 18 gram/cm 2 load, preferably between 40-90 microns under no load, and an overall pore size distribution such that 90% of the pores in the web have wet pore radii between 10-150 microns under no load.
  2. 2
The absorbent article of Claim 1 wherein said absorbent core is in the form of one of the following structures:(a) a laminate comprising said web of meltblown fibers and at least one additional layer selected from the group consisting of: an airlaid tissue layer, a wet laid tissue layer, a carded polyolefin web, a carded web of staple rayon and cotton fibers, a carded PET web, a spunbonded polyolefin web, a spunbonded nylon web, and a spunbonded PET web;(b) a laminate comprising said web of meltblown fibers and a second web of said meltblown fibers with superabsorbent material particles therebetween;(c) a structure wherein said web of meltblown fibers comprises a matrix of fibers and said absorbent core structure further comprises a plurality of superabsorbent material particles that have fibers of a first relatively large size flocked thereon to form fiber flocked superabsorbent material particles, said web of meltblown fibers is comprised of fibers of a second smaller size, and said fiber flocked superabsorbent material particles are surrounded by said meltblown matrix of fibers;or (d) a laminate comprising a first layer and a second layer wherein    said first layer comprises said meltblown web of fibers, and    said second layer comprises a material selected from the group consisting of: a tissue web, a carded nonwoven web, and a spunbonded nonwoven web;and    a plurality of superabsorbent material particles between said first and second layer, wherein at least one of said first and second layers has been solvent-treated, and    said first and second layers have been secured to each other at least partially by said superabsorbent material particles with heat and pressure bonds.
  3. 3
The absorbent article of Claim 1 wherein said absorbent core has at least one of the following features:said absorbent core comprises a single web of meltblown fibers having two or more regions with different densities;said absorbent core is provided with a plurality of spaced apart embossing lines that are generally oriented in the longitudinal direction.
  4. 4
The absorbent article of Claim 1 wherein said acquisition layer has a top surface and an underside, and said fibers in said absorbent core have been meltblown onto the underside of said acquisition layer.
  5. 5
The absorbent article of Claims 1 or 4 wherein said acquisition layer comprises a fabric selected from the group consisting of the following:a carded polyester fabric, a carded polyethylene fabric, a carded polypropylene fabric, a spunbonded polyester fabric, a spunbonded polyethylene fabric, and a spunbonded polypropylene fabric.
  6. 6
The absorbent article of Claim 1 wherein said acquisition layer comprises a two layer composite structure comprising a carded or spunbonded fabric having a top surface and an underside, said carded or spunbonded fabric comprising a plurality of fibers having pores therebetween each having a radius, wherein said pores have an average wet pore size radius of between 50-90 microns under no load, and an overall pore size distribution such that 90% of the pores in the web under no load have wet pore radii between 10-150 microns, and a plurality of meltblown fibers attached to the underside of said carded or spunbonded fabric, wherein said meltblown fibers have pores therebetween each having a radius, wherein said pores have under no load an average wet pore size radius of between 10-40 microns, and an overall pore size distribution such that 90% of the pores in the web have under no load wet pore radii between 7-70 microns.
  7. 7
The absorbent article of Claim 6 wherein said meltblown fibers have been attached to the underside of said carded or spunbonded fabric in one of the following manners:by meltblowing said meltblown fibers onto the underside of said carded or spunbonded fabric, or by embossing said meltblown fibers onto the underside of said carded or spunbonded fabric.
  8. 8
The absorbent article of Claim 1 wherein said absorbent core has a topsheet-facing side, a backsheet-facing side, and an underlying portion positioned between said topsheet-facing side and said backsheet-facing side of said absorbent core, and said absorbent core comprises:two layers of liquid pervious material comprising a first layer and a second layer wherein the first layer is adjacent said topsheet-facing side of said core and said second layer is adjacent said backsheet-facing side of said core;and a plurality of particles of superabsorbent material positioned between said first and second layers of liquid pervious material, wherein said web of meltblown fibers comprising said core forms said topsheet-facing side of said absorbent core, said web having pores of a size that will permit liquids to pass through to the underlying portions of said absorbent core, and another web of meltblown fibers forms said backsheet-facing side of said absorbent core so that said particles of superabsorbent material are at least partially sealed within said absorbent core by said webs of meltblown fibers which form said topsheet-facing side and said backsheet-facing side of said absorbent core.
