Abstract

A novel polysiloxane polyether copolymer useful as a silicone surface active agent is disclosed having improved polyether versatility.

    A silicone polyether surfactant comprising a polysiloxane copolymer selected from those of the following formulae:TD x M'₃;TD x D' y M'₃;TD' y M'₃;TD x D' y M₃;TD' y M₃;T'D x M'₃;T'D x D' y M'₃;T'D' y M'₃;T'D' y M'₃;T'D x D' y M₃;T'D'M₃;T'D x M₃;M'D x D' y M';M'D x M';MD' y M;MD x D' y M, M'D' y M';M'Q;(D') x or mixtures of any of the foregoing;wherein M represents R₃SiO ½ ;D represents R₂SiO 2/2 ;T represents RSiO 3/2 ;Q represents SiO 4/2 ;M' represents R₂R¹SiO ½ ;D represents RR¹SiO 2/2 ;T' represents R¹SiO 3/2 ;each R independently represents a saturated or unsaturated monovalent hydrocarbon;R¹ represents an alkyl poly(oxyalkylene) group;x is greater than about 1;y is greater than about 1 and z ranges from 3 to about 12.

    A silicone polyether as defined in Claim 1 of the general formula:MD x D' y M wherein M represents R₃SiO ½ ;D represents R₂SiO 2/2 ;D' represents RR¹SiO 2/2 , each R represents a saturated or unsaturated monovalent hydrocarbon, R¹ represents an alkyl poly(oxyalkylene) group;x is greater than about 1 and y is greater than about 1.

    A silicone polyether as defined in any preceding claim wherein y ranges from about 1 to about 1000.

    A method for preparing a silicone polyether surfactant comprising a polysiloxane copolymer selected from those of the general formulae:TD x M'₃;TD x D' y M'₃;TD' y M'₃;TD x D' y M₃;TD' y M₃;T'D x M'₃;T'D x D' y M'₃;T'D' y M'₃;T'D' y M'₃;T'D x D' y M₃;T'D'M₃;T'D x M₃;M'D x D' y M';M'D x M';MD' y M;MD x D' y M, M'D' y M';M'Q;(D') x or mixtures of any of the foregoing;wherein M represents R₃SiO ½ ;D represents R₂SiO 2/2 ;T represents RSiO 3/2 ;Q represents SiO 4/2 ;M' represents R₂R¹SiO ½ ;D represents RR¹SiO 2/2 ;T' represents R¹SiO 3/2 ;each R independently represents a saturated or unsaturated monovalent hydrocarbon;R¹ represents an alkyl poly(oxyalkylene) group;x is greater than about 1;y is greater than about 1 and z ranges from 4 to about 12;comprising the steps of: (a) reacting an alkenylarylalkylisocyanate with a hydroxy endcapped polyoxyalkylene to produce an alkyl(polyoxyalkylene)carbamylalkylarylalkenyl compound;(b) reacting the alkyl(polyoxyalkylene)-carbamylalkylarylalkenyl compound with a siloxane hydride fluid selected from those of the general formulae: TD x M H ₃;TD x D Hy M H ₃;TD H y M H ₃;TD x D H y M₃;TD H y M₃;T H D x M H ₃;T H D x D H y M H ₃;T H D H y M H ₃;T H D H y M H ₃;T H D x D H y M₃;T H D H M₃;T H D x M₃;M H D x D H y M H ;M H D x M H ;MD H y M;MD x D H y M, M H D H y M H ;M H Q;(D H ) x wherein M H represents a dialkyl hydrogen siloxy of the formula R₂HSiO ½ ;D H represents an alkyl hydrogen siloxy of the formula RHSiO 2/2 ;T H represents an hydrogen siloxy of the formula HSiO 3/2 , and wherein M, D, T, Q, R, x, y and z are as defined above to produce said polysiloxane copolymer.

    A method as defined in Claim 5 wherein said siloxane hydride fluid is of the formula MD x D H y M and said polysiloxane copolymer is of the general formula MD x D' y M;wherein M, D, D', D H , x and y are as defined above.

    A method as defined in any one of Claims 5, 6 or 7 wherein step (b) is a hydrosilation reaction in the presence of a platinum catalyst.

    An antiperspirant emulsion composition comprising:(a) a polar liquid containing an aqueous solution of an antiperspirant salt as a discontinuous phase;(b) a volatile liquid having a normal boiling point less than 250°C as a continuous phase, said volatile liquid being selected from the group consisting of methylsiloxane fluids having the average unit formula         (CH₃) a SiO (4-a)/2 wherein a has an average value of from 2 to 3 inclusive and paraffinic hydrocarbon fluids;and (c) a polysiloxane copolymer as defined in any one of Claims 1 to 4 and, optionally, (d) an organic oil-in-water type surfactant having an HLB value of from 8 to 18 inclusive.

    An antiperspirant stick composition comprising:(A) from about 100 to 200 parts by weight of water having an active ingredient dissolved therein;in a discontinuous phase in about 100 parts by weight of a continuous oil matrix containing: (B) about 50 to 75% by weigh cyclic polysiloxane fluid;(C) about 25 to 50% by weight of an organic wax;and (D) a polysiloxane copolymer as defined in any one of Claims 1 to 4.
