Polyisocyanates, their production and use.

Abstract

A polyisocyanate obtainable by reacting a monohydric alcohol containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms with an aliphatic organic polyisocyanate compound and containing allophanate and isocyanurate structures in an allophanate/isocyanurate molar ratio of 4/1 through 1/10, which is substantially free of the dimer and substantially colorless and has both a sufficiently low viscosity to insure a high-solid system and a high solubility in nonpolar solvents with low toxicity and low pollution potentials. The polyisocyanate has a high degree of compatibility for various polyols, particularly fluorine-containing polyols and capable of providing the coating film with excellent weather resistance.

21 claims: 3 independent, 18 dependent

  1. 1
A polyisocyanate obtainable by reacting a monohydric alcohol containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms with an aliphatic organic polyisocyanate compound, which polyisocyanate is characterized by containing both allophanate and isocyanurate structures in an allophanate/isocyanurate molar ratio of 4:1 through 1:10.
  2. 12
A process for producing a polyisocyanate which comprises subjecting a monohydric alcohol containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms and an aliphatic organic polyisocyanate compound, in stoichiometric excess with respect to the monohydric alcohol to allophanation and isocyanuration reactions in the presence of a catalyst and, thereafter, removing the unreacted aliphatic organic polyisocyanate.
  3. 19
A two-package fluorine-containing coating composition comprising a fluorine-containing polyol having two or more hydroxyl groups per molecule and a polyisocyanate containing both allophanate and isocyanurate structures in an allophanate/isocyanurate molar ratio of 4:1 through 1:10 obtainable by reacting a monohydric alcohol containing 1 to 10 carbon atoms with an aliphatic organic polyisocyanate compound.
