Recursive video signal processor.

Abstract

To be able to cope with the high video signal data rates which occur in a high definition video signal, a recursive video signal processor for estimating motion vectors demultiplexes the incoming video signal into four adjacent quadrants which are each processed by four separate motion estimators. The video signal processor comprises selectors to apply prediction vectors from the present quadrant and from adjacent quadrants to each motion estimator. Preferably, the lower quadrants C and D are processed one active field later than the upper quadrants A and B, while the right quadrants B and D are processed one active line later than the left quadrants A and C. Preferably, adjacent quadrants show a partial overlap.

  1. 1
A recursive video signal processor, comprising:means for demultiplexing a video signal into a plurality of spatially adjacent sections;a plurality of parallel video signal processing means coupled to respective outputs of said demultiplexing means, each one of said video signal processing means recursively processing one of said spatially adjacent sections by means of at least one feedback loop;and    link means for selectively coupling said feedback loops of said plurality of parallel video signal processing means.
