A liquid crystal display device (1) comprising:a liquid crystal display element (2) having electrodes disposed on confronting surfaces of a transparent substrate (7) and an other substrate (8), the electrodes defining pixels of the display element, each pixel having an associated driving circuit including a signal storage means, and a liquid crystal (9) disposed between the transparent substrate (7) and the other substrate (8);a filter (3) disposed at the transparent substrate side of the display element for passing light of a selected wavelength, the selected wavelength changing after a pre-determined time in response to a signal from a means for selecting the wavelength of light passed by the filter so as to display sequentially different wavelength images on the display element;characterised in that the driving circuits comprise a plurality of driving parts, each driving part driving an associated pixel of the display element, wherein each driving part comprises a signal scanning part (32) for outputting a driving signal voltage under the control of a scanning signal (VD) applied to the driving part;a buffer circuit (34) for holding the driving signal voltage and applying the driving signal voltage to the pixel;first and second signal holding capacitors (33a, 33b) disposed between the signal scanning part (32) and the buffer circuit (34) for holding the driving signal voltage;and changeover means (SW1, SW2;37a, 37b) for alternately connecting the first and second capacitors (33a, 33b) to the buffer circuit (34) and to the signal scanning part (32) respectively and to the signal scanning part (32) and to the buffer circuit (34) respectively;and in that the other substrate has light reflecting means for reflecting light incident from the transparent substrate side.
