Speakerphone with serial port interface

A speakerphone with a serial port interface (64) is provided for interfacing a typical speakerphone to a microprocessor. The serial port interface allows the speakerphone to receive input data in a serial fashion thereby minimizing the number of external pins required. Further, since the input data is received serially, increased programmability of the speakerphone is also achieved without increasing the number of external pins.
