  1. 1
A method of recording a data signal by means (A) of light beam irradiation to a recording medium (2) which changes reversibly between optically distinguishable states according to specific light irradiation recording power levels, said method comprising the following successive steps:a) irradiating a series of recording light beams having different recording power levels before beginning recording of the data signal to the recording medium (2);b) irradiating a reading light beam onto the recording medium where the series of recording light beams has been irradiated;c) detecting the quantity of reflected or transmitted reading light from or through the recording medium (2);d) comparing results of the detection for the different recording power levels with each other;and e) determining optimum power levels of the light beam for recording the data signal to the recording medium (2) based upon results of the comparison wherein the determination of said optimum recording power levels of the light beam is made by determining a power level at which the change in the amount of reflected or transmitted light as a function of the recording power becomes maximum as a reference power level, multiplying said reference power level by predetermined constant values and designating values obtained as the result of the multiplication as said optimum power levels. f) recording the data signal using the optimum recording power levels.
  2. 5
A method of recording a data signal by means of light beam irradiation to a recording medium (2) which changes reversibly between optically distinguishable states according to specific light irradiation recording power levels, said method comprising the following successive steps:a) recording a test signal by irradiating a series of light beams having different recording power levels before beginning recording of the data signal to the recording medium (2);b) irradiating a reading light beam onto the recording medium where the series of recording light beam has been irradiated;c) detecting the quantity of reflected or transmitted reading light from or through the recording medium for reproducing said test signal;d) measuring the number of errors in the reproduced test signal for the different recording power levels;e) comparing results of the measurement for the respective recording power levels with each other;f) determining optimum recording power levels of the light beam for recording the data signal to the recording medium (2) based upon results of the comparison wherein said optimum recording power levels of the light beam are determined to be power levels at which the amount of errors is minimum. and g) recording the data signal using the optimum recording power levels.
  3. 9
A method of recording a data signal to a recording medium which changes reversibly between optically distinguishable states according to specific light irradiation recording power levels, said method comprising the following successive steps:a) preparing plural different irradiation patterns of recording pulses;b) irradiating said plural different irradiation patterns on the recording area of the recording medium (2) sequentially before beginning recording of the data signal;c) irradiating a reading light beam onto the recording medium where said plurality of patterns have been recorded;d) detecting an amount of reflected or transmitted light from or through the recording medium for said plural different irradiation patterns;e) measuring an amount of errors contained in respective reflected or transmitted lights having been detected;f) comparing results of the measurement for the respective patterns with each other;g) determining one of said plural different irradiation patterns by which the amount of errors is minimum as an optimum irradiation pattern for recording the data signal;and h) recording the datal signal using the optimum irradiation pattern.
