Method for selecting a broadcast programme

When RDS program call in known mobile receivers, the data contained in the station memory are transferred to a working memory and all alternative frequencies are tuned and evaluated for a short time. If the same PI code is not detected at any of the alternative frequencies, a search is started for the same program chain. In stored individual stations or programs with only a few and poorly receivable alternative frequencies, a search is often started in this way, although a short time later good reception conditions are present. The object of the invention is therefore to specify a retrieval strategy in which an unnecessary search is suppressed. This problem is solved by assigning to the program call, when checking the alternative frequencies contained in the station memory, each frequency a rank that depends on the reception quality. The reception quality is checked according to the RDS quality and the RF reception quality, such as multipath reception, reception field strength, and transmitter center. If no frequency with sufficient RDS quality is found, the frequency with the highest field strength and detected RDS signal radiation is set, provided that sufficient quality of hearing is determined from the RF reception quality. The frequency thus set remains set for a predetermined time. Only if no RDS identification was possible during this time will a search within the desired program chain be started.
