  1. 1
A method of recording and reproducing a digital signal, comprising the steps of:- forming an (N+M)-bit digital signal, N and M being positive integers, by an N-bit digital audio signal as higher bits and an M-bit digital video signal as lower bits;- recording and reproducing the digital signal comprising (N+M)-bits, characterized by - positioning the M-bit digital video signal at the lower bit side of the (N+M)-bit digital signal such that the most significant bit of the digital video signal corresponds to the least significant bit of the (N+M)-bit digital signal.
  2. 13
A recording apparatus, comprising:- mixing means (20) for forming an (N+M)-bit digital signal, N and M being positive integers by mixing an N-bit digital audio signal as higher bits and an M-bit digital video signal as lower bits;and - recording means for recording the (N+M)-bit digital signal from said mixing means (20) on a recording medium, characterized in that - the M-bit digital video signal at the lower bit side of the (N+M)-bit digital signal is positioned by said mixing means (20) such that the most significant bit of the digital video signal corresponds to the least significant bit of the (N+M)-bit digital signal.
  3. 16
A recording apparatus according to claims 13 or 14, characterized in that - said recording means includes a rotary magnetic head so as to record the (N+M)-bit digital signal on a magnetic tape.
  4. 17
A recording apparatus according to any of claims 14 to 16, characterized in that - a separation means is provided for separating the N-bit digital audio signal and the M-bit digital video signal from the reproduced (N+M)-bit digital signal, - a timing conversion means (60) is provided for processing the M-bit digital video signal from said separation means (36), - said timing conversion means includes memory means having at least a pair of memories, - an input selection switch (58) is provided at the input side of said memory means and is operated in a postrecording mode, - said input selection switch (58) receives an input video signal and a reproduced video signal from said memory means, - the reproduced video signal read from one memory of said memory means is written in another one of memory through said input selection switch when a postrecording mode is selected, and - the video signal read from said another memory and to be recorded is coincided with the reproduced video signal read from said one memory.
  5. 22
A recording apparatus according to any of claims 14 to 21, characterized in that - the first sampling clock is a sampling clock based on a digital format of a digital audio tape recorder, and the second sampling clock is a sampling clock having a frequency equal to an integral multiple of a color subcarrier frequency
  6. 23
A reproducing apparatus, comprising:- mixing means for forming an (N+M)-bit digital signal, N and M being positive integers, by mixing a N-bit digital audio signal as higher bits and a M-bit digital video signal as lower bits, - reproducing means for reproducing the (N+M)-bit digital signal from a recording medium, said recording medium storing the (N-M)-bit digital signal consisting of an N-bit digital audio signal as higher bits and an M-bit ditgital video signal as lower bits, and - separation means (36) for separating the N-bit digital audio signal and the M-bit digital video signal from the (N+M)-bit digital signal reproduced by said reproducing means characterized in that - the M-bit digital video signal at the lower bit side of the (N+M)-bit digital signal is positioned by said mixing means (20) such that the most significant bit of the digital video signal corresponds to the least significant bit of the (N+M)-bit digital signal.
  7. 25
A reproducing apparatus according to claims 23 and 24, characterized by - a timing conversion means (60) for processing the M-bit digital video signal from said separation means (36), - a first sampling clock for digitizing the N-bit digital audio signal, and - a second sampling clock for digitizing the M-bit digital video signal.
