Novel halo propargyl compounds, and uses and processes of preparation thereof.

Abstract

Compounds of the formula wherein Y and Z are each independently O, S, or N-R; X is H, Br or I; A and R is H, Br or I; are each independently one of; (C₁ to C₁₈) straight or branched alkyl; (C₃ to C₈) cycloalkyl; (C₃ to C₆) alkenyl; (C₃ to C₆) alkynyl except propargyl; (C₇ to C₁₂) aralkyl; (C₆ to C₁₂) aryl optionally substituted with one or more halogen, (C₁ to C₄) alkyl or haloalkyl, (C₁ to C₄) alkoxy, nitro, cyano, carboxyl (C₁ to C₄) alkoxycarbonyl, (C₁ to C₄) alkyl thio, -S(O)nR² where n is 1 or 2 and R₂ is (C₁-C₄) alkyl; a 2-thienyl, 3-thienyl, 2-furyl, 3-furyl, 2-pyridyl, 3-pyridyl, or 4-pyridyl moiety each optionally substituted with halo or nitro; or H, with the proviso that R is H only when X is I or Br. are diclosed as useful microbicides and herbicides.

  1. 1
Compound of the formula wherein Y and Z are each independently O, S, or N-R;X is H, Br or I;A and R are each independently one of;(C₁ to C₁₈) straight or branched alkyl;(C₃ to C₈) cycloalkyl;(C₃ to C₆) alkenyl;(C₃ to C₆) alkynyl except propargyl;(C₇ to C₁₂) aralkyl;(C₆ to C₁₂) aryl optionally substituted with one or more halogen, (C₁ to C₄) alkyl or haloalkyl, (C₁ to C₄) alkoxy, nitro, cyano, carboxyl (C₁ to C₄) alkoxycarbonyl, (C₁ to C₄) alkyl thio, -S(O)nR² where n is 1 or 2 and R² is (C₁-C₄) alkyl;a 2-thienyl, 3-thienyl, 2-furyl, 3-furyl, 2-pyridyl, 3-pyridyl, or 4-pyridyl moiety each optionally substituted with halo or nitro;or H, with the proviso that R is H only when X is I or Br.
  2. 8
Process for preparing a compound of the formula wherein A,Z and Y are as defined in any preceding claim, comprising reacting a compound of the formula with a compound of the formula HC≡CCH₂L, where L is a leaving group, preferably Br, in the presence of base, which base is preferably potassium carbonate.
  3. 9
Process for preparing a compound of the formula (I) as defined in any of claims 1 to 6, where X is I or Br, comprising reacting a compound of the formula with an iodinating or brominating agent, preferably N-iodosuccinimide or N-bromosuccinimide.
